View Full Forums : What "extra" will LDoN have?

In all the last few expansions there's been something there to appeal to people that wouldn't ordinarily buy the expansion because of it's level range etc. For instance, LoY had bank space, charms, dyes. PoP had portals.

Do you think LDoN will have something like that, and if so, what?

Maybe they'll have "ressurrectors". ;)

It's really funny you would say that, Panamah. I was kinda thinking along the same lines myself. I've been trying to figure out how they would do this instancing without forcing folks to always have a cleric along and the idea of "ressurrectors" came to mind.

/shrug We'll see.

I dunno why, I just see an "ressurrector" as a gnomish device. You feed your corpse into it, hear grinding and squishing noises, and then it's spit out the other end and your soul is reattached by a grouchy Pixie hovering nearby sprinkling "binding dust" on your repaired corpse.

The Pixie insults you soundly while you're suffering under res effects, just to make the whole experience that much more humiliating.

Of course, gnomish tinkerers being what they are, can't quite do as good a job as a cleric. You only get back 80% of your experience.

a 25% weight reduction sack for everyones marbles?

Class balance via the de-level to 50 nerf?

Oh, and couple of spells.

I suspect we would've heard of the "extra" by now if there was one.

I think they consider the "extra" to be all the single-group content you can eat, no waiting.

Oh, and that 8-slot 25% WR bag. Weeeee...

:p

My guess on the extra :

It will include a quest to change religion.

Wha they won't tell you before hand is that the quest will require 40+ drops - one from each dungeon variation. Only drops from the 'boss' of the dungeon. Rarely. And only at the highest difficulty.

Wait, I know! It'll be smell-o-vision. With each order they'll mail a smell-player that you connect to your system and some complimentary bottles of:

1) Eau de Corpse
2) Froglok phermerone
3) Vah Shir musk

Shockingly - maybe they are relying upon the expansion itself ot sell it!?!?!??! *gasps* They haven't soley relied upon the content of the expansion to sell it since Velious. If there is no bigger quirk than a craptastic in game bag then they must really think alot of their expansion. We can all only hope. :)

Velious had an "extra"! It was the new interface that, I think, you could only get if you ordered Velious. I do know they started mucking around with the interface in Velious and I'm sort of sure that you only got the new one if you ordered the expansion.

Actually, I think they do use the "extras" to try to sell the expansions to people that they didn't provide any content for. For instance, in PoP, the casuals were supposed to be appeased because there were telly-portals. In LoY the really high level people could get their jollies on the bank space and dyes because there wasn't much content of use to them.

Hmmm... was there an "extra" in Kunark? I don't think so.

I thought the epics were the 'extra' in Kunark. But they may have been the 'included', been a long time.

Can't really consider 'epics' to be a Kunark extra - they were introduced several months after Kunark's release.

Kunark's extra was the increase of levels and a new race. Even if you weren't already 50 and raiding (and most weren't) the concept was there, and just as some folk bought LoY for the frogs others bought Kunark for Iksar.

Oh, and Kunark and Luclin were both in theory for all levels, so had less need of an 'extra'. When Velious came out I didn't buy it right away, it was advertised as 35 to 60, and my primary was 30. I think I broke down just for someplace new, with new and interesting quests (I liked the factions). Turned out to have some great places to level as well, I did 37 through 40 in less then a week in Crystal Caverns, as a warrior duoing with a monk. In crappy gear.

Oh, well, they say that something is the first to go, but I can't remember what it was...

I think it'll come with a raid simulator for those that like raiding better than dungeon crawling.

You'll zone into the virtual raid, wait for 45 minutes as the rest of your raid spawns. There's a good chance your raid won't spawn enough clerics, so you might have to fill in on the cheal chain. Then you'll have 20 minutes of buffing your virtual guild. Then you'll have 45 minutes of fighting yard trash.

Then you eventually get to the virtual boss mob. If your raid simulation wins, you get DKP with the server which you can spend in future raids, providing your faction with the guild leader and officers is sufficient.

For sure more timesinks.
I finally decided to buy LoY for that 10 MR charm (matters some on a PvP server) and then I sat there camping greens. A guildmate told me he was lucky and got that charm pretty fast. It took me 20h of camping just to get the key reward charm like 2 weeks later (was announced a few days after me finally getting that charm from killing green mobs).

Jup, great way to waste your lifetime and excellent game design. :(

Luckily a guildmate was with me and I even got my charm before him (yes, it took him over 20h to get that whiskers charm from the bar) so I wasn't alone in my pain.

Wouldn't the 'extra' be that this expansion has something for almost every level range to begin with?

I remember that explicitly. If you did not have Velious, you could not use the new UI.

Panamah

But now everyone has the new UI regardless since they got rid of the old one entirely.

Yes, with Luclin they made the third UI (the XML based one) the standard. The UI that was introduced in Velious was the one that allowed you to enter fullscreen mode instead of having to play in a tiny window.

Oh yeah!

So any other ideas for LDoN extras?

Tradeskill Mules

Maybe there will be actual mules... Yeah, that's the ticket! Instead of having a tradeskill "mule" character, you can get a mule, that actually has 4 legs. It'll follow you around and have 10 additional inventory slots. Plus, you can train it to hand you stuff on command:

/tar mule
'Hand me a stack of <insert link here>'

You could play in full screen mode from release. All my screenies are in that mode from back then.

Velious era they started mucking around with it, such that you could move the windows around, change the background colours, then they added hitsmode. At first you had to have velious to use it but then it was made universal.

Then they scrapped all that and went with the 3rd XML based interface, which started optional with the expansion, then was made universal again.

You could, sort of. But you couldn't see any text or interact with your inventory and stuff.
