Well, I'd like to start by saying this looks like a pretty cool site.. I played EQ for a little bit when I was stationed in Korea, and just recently (because my friend's constant bugging) picked it up again. I am currently a level 22 Wood Elf druid. I have done some Paludal Caverns, but recently discovered how fun it is to charm animals and use them as tanks. Do you guys have any suggestions for places to hunt/tactics to use? Like I said, I'm pretty new, so I don't know much more than what is pretty obvious. Thanks a bunch.

Stone brunt mountains is a decent spot for charming around your level, xp is decent, and loots not too bad. Plus, with the gunthak stone in pok now, getting there is a cinch (Not like its tough to reach for druids anyways lol). After that, you could try charming in Dawnshroud Peaks.

Hehe, the only animals (that I know of) in the dawn shroud are wolves, and they con red to my L28 buttocks...Looks like it is going to be Marus Seru for me for a little bit.

I believe Rockhoppers are animals as well but just the normal "a rockhopper" not the fancy named ones.

Never tried, but aren't the zelniaks animals?

Yeah, the rockhoppers are, and i've been charming their lesser cousins (greyhoppers) since I was level 24. Of course, they were pretty high, and came to take a bite out of me a bit quicker than I would have liked. The Zelniaks, on the other hand, are not considered animals. Pretty wierd.

So do you guys normally take a "Chosen One" and buff him, and keep one guy to attack a bunch of other blues, or do you debuff both the enemy and your pet, and then kill your pet when he's done fighting once?

If you can effectively keep them both rooted, or at least snared if you wanna have more fun, you can park one and charm it, park another next to it, and have them fight till one's about to die. Invis off charm, and finish them both for full exp. I've never been a real fan of buffing pets and keeping them (except for dc).

Of course, this only works in zones with alot of animals. If its a zone with fewer animals, and your charm seems to last a good portion of the max duration, then I guess buffing wouldn't be such a bad idea. Guess it just depends on situation and preference.

I used to charm rockhoppers when farming in the caves so I know they can be druid charmed.

The Zelniaks are animals. I was charming them around that level. I may have been 24 at the time.

you can charm the hoppers or the zelniks if not now then later...also you can snare them and fear them and have a melee parther whomp on them. fear will wear off and they will beat on your melee partner but if snared they can back up while you fear.. or stand there and get whomped, you re fear and heal them....Have to watch which way you fear them if you use that method ..wolf adds lol...

the animal tank method is prob better but just another capability you have.

Hum I wonder if we can charm the named hopper in the caves now with the new charm spell.

It always said 'Uncharmable' before so I doubt it.
