Full Story (http://www.newshounds.us/2005/05/18/fox_news_in_ratings_free_fall.php#more)

TV Newser cited a CNN press release which gave these totals for Fox's primetime audience in the 25 to 54 age bracket: Oct. 04: 1,074,000; Nov. 04: 891,000; Dec. 04: 568,000; Jan. 05: 564,000; Feb. 05: 520,000; March 05: 498,000; April 05: 445,000. That amounts to a decline of 58 percent, with no sign of leveling off.

I'm an equal opportunity viewer; I don't want any TV. :D

I think the majority of the FOX news watchers only tune in around election time so that they can be told what to believe and how to vote.

Interesting. I don't have time to go through the article at work right now, but does it list %'s for other channels? Would be interesting to see if the others had losses or gains. Losses would indicate Klath's opinion to be true (hey, there are mindless democrats too). Increases would prove interesting.

I watch FNC all the time at work, that's about it. Sometimes I keep it on while I play eq for backround noise. I hardly watch it now since buying my ps2 though. And I never watch the prime-time shows. They're all biased on the shows, even the non-primetime shows are biased. The reason I watch? It's at work, some of them have good humor ( Linda Vestner, Shepard Smith anyone), and it still gives me somewhat of an idea of what's going on in the world.

Other cable stations' ratings were also down since the election, but CNN's, for example, appeared to have stabilized last month while Fox's continued to drop.

Personally I've gotten pretty fed up with the "real news". They don't tell you enough about things to really inform you. I like the PBS/NPR style story where they go very indepth into things. I absolutely hate local news.

Or, I like fake news that doesn't pretend to be real news (unlike Fox) and sometimes, it isn't so fake! That'd be The Daily Show.

Yeah, I've been listening to NPR a lot the past year while I'm in the car. It beats the radio "news" stations where someone of <insert political view here> rants and screams about various issues, with maybe 5-10 minutes of real news an hour.

Hell froze over last night. I turned my ps2 off and my tv went to FNC. The show on atm, none other then Hanity & Colmes (/shiver). Sean was in his usual cocky, your not a conservative republican so your gonna burn in hell u pos demon spawn shiat, that he usually has with non-con's. I figured ok, well the guy isnt getting to talk and this is the same reason I stopped watching CNN. Then Alan cuts Sean off and starts tearing into the guy too. OMG! Sean & Allan agree'ed on something. Apparently this guy runs a site that cheers the death of US soldiers because they dont get paid enough or get paid to much, well I hope someone put's a bullet in his head cause that's my family over there too, but he does have his right to freedom of speech. Im just still shocked they both went after this guy in a harsh manner. Kudo's to the both of them.

I always come away from listening to NPR either feeling like I've learned something I didn't know, or perhaps laughing at something. I usually come away from network/cable news feeling like the world is completely populated with morons and my IQ has just plunged 50 points.

Hmmm... I'd love to see a graph charting the major news outlets ratings since the election. If any site would have it, this one would: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/

But I don't have time at the moment to look.

"Figures never lie, but liars always figure . . ."

First off Klath has probably nailed it on why the drop for that age demographic, but not for the reason stated of course. The age demographic in question was simply more interested in the news during the Presidential election timeframe. My guess is that in the months preceeding there was a similiar upswing in the viewership number.

The real questions are how does that compare to the drop for the entire demographic and how does it compare to CNN, MSNBC, PBS, etc.

Notice how they conveniently avoid those parts of the story, of course then that would be expecting real journalism.

You might want to take a look at your own link once, as it shows FSN roundly and consistantly beating the crap out of CNN and MSNBC for Friday (5/13), Monday (5/16), Tuesday (5/17), and Wednesday (5/18).

Of particular note is the three examples from Friday May 13 where FSN's 25-54 viewership, the viewer segment you claim FSN as having severe troubles with, alone beat the entire viewership of their competitors.

I think it's not really news that FSN claims larger numbers than CNN, the interesting part was the longer term downward trend.

Those are specific days, I'd really like to see a chart showing a trend over the months since the election. So far I haven't seen one. Odd, you'd think charting trends would be of more interest than just specific days.

Yep, according to the link FNC has higher ratings than CNN, MSNBC and CNBC combined.
