Some interesting ideas here.

Let me say that I'm pleased that they are actually doing some really radical new stuff with "EverQuest One" instead of just EQII.

We will see if they manage to make it work and how good it really is.

It is an interesting idea about the "intelligent items". If I understand correctly, some of your items might "earn experience" so that they improve the more you use them.

I like that they are doing stuff to try to keep the game interesting and fresh. Frankly, I'm pretty happy with the way the game is now (if they would just fix the bugs, fix the stupid stuff and actually do what we asked for in the Top Ten list) but some thinking "out of the box" might be cool.

Let's hope it is better than the last time they mentioned thinking "out of the box" when they decided to copy WoW with the stances. I'm waiting in dread for the day that goes live because I hate them.

It's not the same thing as Project M, if I'm reading it correctly. You use the spirit shroud to become a monster to adventure with lower level friends. Not run around and hunt newbs or other players, which is what Project M was. Also, I wouldn't count on this expansion being released on time. They're going to have copyright issues with WoTC.

Illithid Liches that are called Alhoons? Copyright infringement.
I think the Sporali are from M:tG or D&D as well.

Sporali have been around since the runnyeye revamp, if not earlier. The only things in M:tG that are similar that I can think of (I stopped playing it about 6 years ago though), is the Saprolings from the Fallen Empires expansion. But yeah, if the illithid things are similar enough they may have problems

Read the Paragraph after the Spirit Shroud one. Sounds to me like you can play a monster and beat on people just like Project M.

Great.....so lower level newbie alts will get attacked PvP style by bored high level players who want to play a monster? This is SOE's way of trying to make the newie experience a better one?
Yeah....I am sure this will really attract new players.
btw- What was Project M? Was that the thing on Test Server when you played as a monster? That never went live did it?

No, it didn't go live, and this will allow bored high level players to play a monster against other bored high level players playing monsters from what I read.

Raid tells warrior05 "wtf u sux @ agro noob"
Lord Nagafen shouts "lolol all your clerics are belong to me!1!"

No, from the way it reads, there won't be any pvm/pvp at all. You can take on the form of a monster within the global file and hunt with lower level friends at an appropriate level. Or you can join friends in a mission and play as a bunch of lvl 50 monsters attacking Nagafen, or you can play by yourself as Nagafen and hunt down hordes of NPC's, as if they were raiding you.

It will NOT be PVP. What it is, is a way for you to adventure as a different class then the one you are, or a way to drop levels to play with friends who are leveling up, or a way to solo if you just jump into a soloable monster class. Also, if you are SK #5 on the raid, you could jump into an orc shaman since there is no shaman at the raid and help out. The experience you gain would go back to your main character.

Actually, It did go live but only for 4 or 5 hours on one of the Zek servers. It cause problems, was pulled and never came back again :(

EDIT:

Here (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches-2001-2.html) is the patch message when it was announced. Scroll down to Nov 7 2001.

To me it sounds like a variation on (my understanding of) the CoH sidekick system?

hmm, the problem that will occur if this does become a PVP expansion will happen just like it did with SHADOWBANE. Newbies wont be able to level up get items they need and will generally fail altogeth.

It appears that Sony is just trying to expand EQ into what it is NOT. They need to relook at what they are doing and go back to the very original Everquest they first came out with and make expansions off of that.

I.E. Spells Vendor bought not stupid runes that cost a zillion plat to buy from market hijackers, faction per city u can enter and be kos or kindly or whatever not like curent where u get faction and are ally yet still kos I.E. RS. etc etc etc. You get the idea.

I think this is a very good idea...

a) Allows people of all levels to group together, in a new and unique way, while benefiting both their mains, and their monster NPC's.

b) It sounds like the monsters used will be mainly those found in original EQ expansion, which will make a new use for these zones that have been abandoned for years.

It may be very difficult to impliment, but if done well, could prove to be extremely entertaining.

There won't be PvP as part of this. If you put on a monster shroud, you play along with your friends but with the class and abilities of that mob. The thought is that you can play a mob up to your level. One example discussed of how this might be useful was if your raid is short of a critical class, a few players can put on an appropriate shroud and fill that need (i.e., I can put on a shroud and play a level 70 orc shaman). I wouldn't be as effective doing so, of course, as someone playing a true level 70 shaman.

The missions would have you playing as a monster, but you'd be fighting NPCs.

I suppose you could PvP as monsters through dueling or Arena areas, though, if you wanted to.

I hope I get something that death touches..... the Dragon on Dragon stuff would be awesome in the arena, or heck western wastes. Dain versus Tormax would be fun. Corudoth versus nagafen with a damage shield on would be hilarious. Lots of interesting possibilities there with alot of potential for abuse though. Like assist bugs. Depends how it works out.

Actually they said they intelligent items will not only be for the end-game. They will put some lower level ones in the game as well. So I doubt they will all be epic.

I've been seeing this a lot. Obviously it's early yet and details might change, but don't think of this as a revamp of Project M. It's better to think of this as a mentoring system. Bascially, the idea is that you'll become PC that looks like a monster and has skills based on the monster template you have chosen. The basic concept does not include PvP.

So, you want to play Nag?

From the Vet Board:

They accidentally pushed a new mob to Lavastorm today. When you speak to him, he offers up an instance (after some dialogue) as the NPCs for Unrest and Hate's Fury.

What instance is that?

He mentions daydreaming about how it must have been to be the great red dragon fighting off adventurers, and he offers to transport you into that daydream to experience what it must have been like.

'Suggestion to Devs: Have the weary traveller mention how his long experiments with magic and the powers of the mind have given him insight into the past, and how he is now able to mentally recreate moments in the past for brief periods of time, but only on willing subjects. He offers to show you the memories of a Dragon, allowing you to experience, for a brief moment, what it must be like to be in that situation.'

Ugh, neither of those explanations for the instance are any good. I might write an idea up later, though obviously it won't be used.
