Anyone else try this (http://www3.kingdomofloathing.com/login.php) game?

It's a riot! I'm actually having a blast with it, and think it's really great to see that spiffed up graphics still can't beat good ol' creativity for fun-factor.

Just finally had time to look at is, the "What is Kingdom of Loathing" document is hilarious!

Hundreds of usable and equippable items fill the dungeons and wildernesses of the Kingdom, including:

Meatloaf Helmet

This is a helmet made out of meatloaf. You feel like a Bat out of Hell when you wear it. You would do anything for this helmet (but you won't do that.)

Filthy Corduroys

This is a pair of filthy corduroys. They're filthy because they came from the wardrobe of a filthy, filthy hippy.

Gnollish Autoplunger

This is a Gnollish Autoplunger. It can be used to quickly unclog toilets, or to lay a foul-smelling smack down on someone or something.

eXtreme Mittens

This is a pair of eXtreme mittens. They'll keep your hands eXtremely warm, without interfering with that which separates you from the animals -- your lack of razor-sharp claws.

It really is a very silly game. I finished a quest which allowed me to go on a vacation. Here's what happened:

After a hard day of ropin' and wranglin' at the Distant Lands Dude Ranch, you head down to the local saloon, where a hoedown is taking place.

After a few minutes of mind-numbingly repetitive dancing, you decide to take a break and order a drink. On your way to the bar, you stub your toe on a overturned spittoon, resulting in one of the most painful and nauseating events of your life. You writhe on the floor, and cry out for medical attention.

The doctor comes in, stinking of gin, and tells you that he thinks you've met your match. You tell him it's just a scratch, and you get better, as soon as you are able (as you were 'ere you saw Elba.)

You gain 4 Beefiness.

Dang, used up all my turns trying to pass Shifty's test of sneaking behind the bar, to the bar to get him a drink. The bar wakes up and beats me up. Stoopid bar!

Thar's a lotta bars in har. You're last trial will be to steal your own pants without noticing. (hint: if you fail the first time, you'll need more xp, continued attempts will all result in failure until your moxie goes up)

I like this:

In the Spooky Forest, you are attacked by one of the spookiest mummies you've ever seen.

This isn't saying much, though, since you've never found mummies to be particularly spooky. I mean, "Ooooh, no! I'll have to walk slightly faster if I want to escape!"

I think it's funny that if you attack a bum in the back alley, one drop you can get is a bum cheek. And if you combine two bum cheeks you can make an asshat.

Hah! I had't caught onto the fact you can combine the crap you get into other stuff. Does the game tell you how to do it, or do you just mix things up and hope?

Jinjre
07-07-2005, 12:01 PM
You can either mix things at random (you have to have meat paste in your inventory, click the 'make meat paste' button at the bottom of the 'miscellaneous' tab of your inventory) or you can go to the official unofficial site ( http://kol.coldfront.net/ ) or you can go lurk on the boards and see what you can find.

Iagoe has seriously gotten into "tradeskilling" and has gone so far as to make himself a chef-in-the-box so he doesn't have to spend an adventure baking.

edited to add: if the two things you attempt to combine don't actually combine to make anything, you don't lose anything either, so you can fiddle all you want with no loss of anything other than time. Unlike other games *ahem*

Neat! I'll have to try. Meanwhile, I'm using my stinky hobo gloves! They have +1 stench. I kind of went around entirely unequipped for awhile.

I haven't looked at it closely yet, but someone just told me about this one: www.urbandead.com

It can't be as good as KoL...it doesn't have stick figures ;)

Not only that, but did you see that screenshot? They actually spelled "zombie" correctly. In KoL you can fight zmobies and zobmies! Obviously KoL is a much better game ;)

You know, I jumped in and used my points and didn't see the point of the game. Hmmm....

Hey! Thanks for all the buffs Jinjre. I was finally able to sneak past the bar... now we'll see if I can steal my own pants without noticing.

Woot!

You sneak up behind yourself and remove your pants before you realize what's going on. Nice work!

Go go Panamah! We're right behind you looking at your pantless butt. ;-)

Now you have to try and get in your own pants. I hear liquor helps...

I've gotten into my pants! :D

Hey, what is there to do besides kill zmobies and bbq'ing gnolls? I'm getting a little bored? I seem to be stuck with about 4 places to adventure and they're kind of repetitive. I'm only level 3 so there isn't much I can get to.

This is a weretaco -- an ordinary man, who, when the moon is full, turns into a half-man, half-taco monstrosity.

Incidentally, for you detail-oriented people out there -- the weretaco's lycanthropic cycle is not tied to Ronald or Grimace, but to some completely unrelated moon in some completely unrelated alternate dimension. That's why you never see him turn into a human. Seriously.

LOL!

Have you seen the council of loathing Pan? I don't remember the order of the quests they give, but seem to recall that at each level they give you a new one, some of which can't be completed until after you get to the next level.

Panamah
07-31-2005, 09:40 AM
Yes! I went in and got about 3 quests to do. I'm a little stuck though. One quest was to go on vacation and I've got all the parts to my car except rims for the tires.

Then I'm supposed to kill a bat, but I can't get past the stinking guana. And apparently a new dungeon has opened but I can't get in for some reason.

Jinjre, I can't find the hermitage any longer. I remember I went there once, but now it seems to be missing!

Jinjre
07-31-2005, 06:11 PM
You have to buy a hermit permit to have access to the hermitage. Hermit permits can be bought in the store.

For the Boss Bat: first combine two bum cheeks to make an asshat. Put on the asshat so you can get past the stench. Then hunt in the entrance until you get three "sonar-in-a-bisquit"s. 'Use" the sonar-in-a-bisquit to open up the other chambers in the bat hole. Then you'll have access to the boss bat.

Oh, and if you get an enchanted bean from the bean bat chamber, hang onto it. You'll need ONE of those later on, the rest you can do with as you please (including asking me to sell them in my store).

Also, when you get the chance to go on vacation, make sure you go 5 times to get the first frequent traveller reward; that along with one more trip to the hermitage will open up 3 new areas to hunt for you, including the obligatory pirate's cove. If you need the meat to afford to go on vacation that much, lemme know, I've got plenty.

I'm stuck on the rat at the generic tavern. :( I keep getting hit for 6 points of damage (from karaoke?!), and seeing as I only have 7 hp, I don't have a chance to do much. :P Are there earplugs or something that I should get first? Or do I just need to level up (I'm level 3)?

katinka
08-01-2005, 05:42 AM
What class are you, Palarran ? Mysticality classes usually need to be a little higher to get things done, they are very flimsy at lower levels. Maybe try again at level 4. I remember them being rather mean when I didn't have any equipment and stuff.

Palarran
08-01-2005, 06:27 AM
Yup, I'm a Pastamancer.
I just figured since every other battle to that point had been so much easier (don't think anything else had hit me for more than 1) that there must have been a trick rather than facing the rat directly.

Panamah

Huh! I'm a Disco Thief, level 4 I think, and I've got about 18 hit points now!

Jinjre
08-01-2005, 01:42 PM
hp are determined off of your strength, which, for a disco theif is their secondary stat.

However, speaking as an accordian thief, it is quite likely Panamah, that you will hit a point in game where your moxie is so great that you never get hit, or if you get hit, you will not be able to do any damage to the mob.

I had an encounter that ended with a statement that said something like "This encounter has been ended. 30 Rounds have occured with no resolution to combat. That is ridiculous. Jick is looking into it." I think I took 20 or less points of damage, and didn't manage to hit the mob but once.

Moxie means never having to say "I'm resting".

I need another hint. Where do I get the things to trade to the hermit? I think I had some, but I threw them away because it said they were worthless. :p

NM! I remembered the chewing gum on a string and sewer. That worked. Now I'm trying to make my car and it only let me do a couple of combines and then the combine option disappeared from my inventory screen, what's up with that?

katinka
08-05-2005, 07:20 AM
You ran out of meat paste probably. Just make some more !

Panamah
08-05-2005, 02:43 PM
Ah! You have to have meat paste to combine stuff?

Jinjre
08-05-2005, 04:46 PM
Yes, at the bottom of your Miscellaneous inventory tab is a button to make meat paste with. 10meat = 1 meat paste. 1 meat paste sells back for 10 meat. 100 meat = 1 meat stack. 1000 meat = 1 dense meat stack. Some items require an EZBake Oven (or equivalent) or a cocktailing kit (or equivalent) to make. But most of the items you'll want are going to be meat paste combines.

Is it possible to have more than one character? Not that I really want to, just curious.

Jinjre
08-08-2005, 03:30 PM
I have Jinjre and Brutimous. You can only have one character per email account, but since I still have two active email accounts (and actually have several more aliases since even life-long friends, for some reason, STILL don't spell my name correctly), I can have two.

I've found at the higher end, having two is plenty in terms of my available time and when I play. Jinjre took on the naughty sorceress last night for the first time and *almost* managed to beat the first incarnation. Which means she lost the fight by over half. Next time I'll get it right.

Jinjre isn't going to ascend, but I think Brutimous will. I think Jinjre will go for deepest basement level while continuing to run the clan and the store. And Jinjre is the pack rat. She's going to have a collection as soon as she can. She's working on getting her 100 lb trophy right now; I think she has all but one of the familiars still available in game; she has all but one of the outfits available in game; she's got all but one of the tattoos available also.

I'll use Brutimous to ascend to see the new content available in the world of ascension.
