Oh, it's still plenty shocking. I did a quick check on the net and the figure in this link (http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/01/31/illegal.immigration/) is definitely at the at the low end (in addition to being slightly outdated).

Yep, the most common figure I found was 11 million but most of the places quoting it benefited politically from the number being higher.
