Well I found the trick you need to do in order to get RS groups. You need to put "RS, MGP" in your LFG :)

Seems that when people see RS they assume you can handle it... or I've made it known that I can heal and DPS in RS.

Either way last night I got a RS group and got "all" my 69 spells! Seems everyone in the group had them so they all went to me.

Get this thou... I was called for DPS and not healing :) I've taken my Crit affliction up to level 5 so far and I can pile on some decent DPS via dots. The mobs in RS stay up about 1 min so I get most of the DOT effect and if you factor in dots being resisted less and better mana eff I was doing quite well. I made sure to tell the group that I was dot stacking and not just a slacker and they got a kick out of that :)

Either way I wanted to share this with you all as I've often been a royal pain bi-ching and moaning about spells.

Happy happy joy joy :)

Thanks for all the support and tips!

-Cass

P.S. Now how in the world do I get level 70's? LOL

Grats Cassea! Sounds like you had one great night. Getting all the runes in your group must have been a nice feeling. I hope to have such a night some day myself.

Can I ask ya how much mana / HP you have to be healing in RS or MPG? Might you have a magelo profile I can view perhaps? I needed a Shammy to help me heal in RCoD and feel so feeble.

I'd love to think I could improve as you have done. For now I'm hovering around level 65 with weak gear and still thinking I should be grouping to get my 66-68 runes. But even with the possibility of getting my 66-68 spells this way, is there much use to leveling up if my gear is so weak to begin with?

Do people kill Chailak and Feratha on your server? We usually kill Chailak with a group a few times a week, 2 level 70 runes rot every time.. or you might try to get an Ilsalin group. Like very first night of DoD me and some friends setup in Ilsalin and each got a level 69 rune or level 70 rune (not knowing that these were total waste since we already had spells..) but it seemed the Ilsalin named were dropping glowing at same rate of the greater. Ilsalin is around same difficulty as RS, maybe a tad higher.

RSS will drop 70 as well as 69, Cass. Just a function of the RNG. That is the surest bet. (Or Illsalin as Kaidman mentioned). You are also getting good aaxp. And you could pick up a nice BP, shield, wrist or augs depending on the camp you are at.

You can try MPG trials but that can be work clearing there and then doing trial (prolly not trivial for you, unless you get real lucky and have a badass tank). Can be good XP and if ya win ya get loot + rune + max resist increase.

Chailak/Feratha is hoping you get in on a raid or a raid will open rot to zone.

Honestly, whoever you were with last night, put em on your friends list and see if they are on next time you log in. Send em a tell and let them know you would enjoy hitting RSS with them again.

On a side note, when doing RSS camps and loot drops... be smart. Let the tanks roll or have the AC augs. You go for the mana/hp. Yes... people will argue that AC can help druids, too. That is not the point.

Kill Chailak and Feratha with a group? I think I can speak for the general druid population and the folks we hang out with that we're far from that level of uberness. But we'll get there, eventually :)

I'm not sure how LotD kills it, but there's ways of killing those mobs that differ from most raid strats. In a nutshell, you can make it so only the warrior is getting hit with the AE. The fight will be long, but cleric's can CH for quite a bit with bard + yaulp 7.

Oh and Petar, if cortes and blak can duo em, I don't think they can be too tough.

Eci/Tunare, Vane the asian guild or probably Gospel of the Dawn alliance have those 2 perma camped I believe. Dunno about other Tunarean guilds, but those 2 were at it when there was no merge :P

BTW... lvl 70 runes can still drop from RSS named, and MPG trial named. They are just rarer. I'm pretty sure...

congrats Cass! And yes, people who see RS, MPG will assume you know what you're doing and can handle it. But once you're there you have to put your money where your mouth is so to speak. If you can do that you'll become more known by people who frequent there and will prolly pick up groups even faster!

Getting picked for a dps slot is (I would guess) the normal case for druids as most people aren't comfortable in true pick-up groups in harder zones without a cleric. However, that's the position that I believe a druid really shines in, not hedged into pure healing. For level 70 spells I would recommend ice side, Frostkeeper Rybah and a couple other assorted nameds down there. It's a little bit rougher with a could of rather mean AEs (it was either a long stun or a mezz, it's been a while ><) but on our server most people prefered the fire side because of the drops. Another great camp is the Pyrilen Riftseeker, not only because he can drop runes, but Familiar Venomtail is able to be pulled to there (drops Wailing Soulshard, one of the best (if not the best) charm slot items for priests in the game).

But even with the possibility of getting my 66-68 spells this way, is there much use to leveling up if my gear is so weak to begin with?

I need to update my Mag profile but I can say:

6500 mana buffed
31/50 mana regen (stand vs sit - self buffed - not with C5)
Healing aa almost maxed (not gift yet)
Crit Affliction 5
Crit Nukes 4
Radiant Cure (nice in RS)
a number of other assorted aa's that really do not help in RS

I can main heal in RS with a good tank but I will eventually run out of mana if the pulls are insane. That night I would not have been able to handle heals. The mad puller was pulling virtually non-stop (got 6 aa's in a few hours) My mana regen (I think - correct me if I'm wrong LOL) helps make up for my lower mana pool.

As DPS I was popping Wasp and Swarm, sitting to med and ending the battle with Tempest. These 2 dots hit for about 75-90% before the mob was dead and I was able to keep up this DPS. I estimate that my DPS output was (including average crits) about 10k per pull. I'm sure this was well under what the melee DPS people were doing but high enough to at least make a dent. The melee's liked Lion (+5% to their output) and we were using Oak combined with Symbol for all but the Main Tank.

Now that I have Vengence I could start with Wasp (it lasts longer) and add Vengence after and both should hit for full efect (10 and 6 ticks) for slightly more DPS.

I targeted the mob in incoming and started casting Wasp before the main tank enganged so that it hit just as the tank enagnged (to get max number of ticks in) - yes this is normally dangerous but the tank was very good and held agg. I'm sure those initial dot tick damage was so low compared to what the tank was putting out that I had no worries :)

Mobs lasted an average of just under a minute from engagement to death and when we got 2 and needed to kill one fast (mana dump LOL) we took them down in about 25 seconds.

I'm sure I was prob the weak link and I'm sure me being able to add to heals if needed might be why I was taken althought I seldom healed.

It cannot be a coincidence that I started getting RS groups once I put "RS, MGP" in my LFG but as someone said before.... you have better be able to put up or shut up LOL.

My ICH is at 5708 now. I can up it a bit with a few of the end aa's but I feel that is high enough for now so I can get some more DPS aa's.

Thanks again for all the words of support. I think you guys really helped get me past a bad time and for this (and tolerating me LOL) I thanks you!

Grats Cassea!

See? Those 69s really aren't all that hard to get after all. I got most of mine in one weekend. 70's will be a different story... but we ALL have problems getting those.

I'm glad to see that you are figuring out that druids CAN heal a lot better than you once thought, given some character development. With Reptile Skin (can't wait to get that one!), healing AAs, good heal focus (and other important foci), and the new CoS Aa (I LOVE that one), we can heal pretty much anywhere a cleric can. In places like RSS, as you have found out, your ability to do the job depends just as much on the rest of the group as it does what SoE has given you for tools. Better tank = less healing for you... good slower = less healing for you... good DPS = less healing for you.

Also, as you can see, it makes a big difference putting the areas you want to hunt in your LFG notes (although I still get "Creator?" /tells, even when I put MPG/RSS only /boggle)

Thanks Cassea! Looks like I have a ways to go in gear and AA's. But your post produced some good info on getting those 69 and 70 runes. Something I'll be looking forward to when I'm big enough.

Grats, Cass!

Great news to hear, as I'm looking for 69s myself, but was fortunate to get a BP drop in RS. We're on Tunare and I can say that I've seen a Japanese guild drop in nearly every day to hit Chailak. Patience will pay off, though, I'm sure I'll get em sooner or later! Still working on improving mana pool tho.

Gratz on all your 69 spells!!
