Oh yeah, someone just discovered that San Diego police have been purposefully under reporting crime to make it look like they're doing a good job. :p

Hmmmm... I recognize about half of the safest communities, but all of the dangerous ones.

Reminds me of the times I drove through Detroit with my windows up and my doors locked. Don't make eye contact... they may think you're staring. Hehe :)

Those ones in CA are pretty much right next to each other.

One pair i see that is right next to each other is Detroit and Troy. They are on both sides of the list. Guess which one has all the money?

Forget Detroit, Flint and Troy. Come to the WEST side of Michigan. We're mediocre on every list!

Meh, Detroit isn't that bad.

There are few things I've gone to quite as exciting as Greek Town and then the Joe on a Stanley Cup Playoff game in Detroit.

I wanna go back to Round Rock. :( We lived in a small unincorporated area of Austin, but it was right off of Round Rock. Great area, massive construction aside.

Round Rock is fine if you like constant construction and even more traffic. I-35 is a parking lot going in to Austin from about 3 pm on. Housing is booming, but you need to always expect that you will get a few rock dings in your windshield for all the street, highway and home construction. Walmarts, Targets, Auto Zones galore! It may be one of the "safest" for now, but that's only because the smart thieves probably go where they can make a get-a-way rather than get caught in heavy traffic. As soon as construction dies down it won't be safe. Not to worry! It's billed as one of the more "exclusive" Austin communities, and where money goes, so do thieves.

Actually from what I've found, the exclusive areas have less crime because they can pay for more cops on the routes. At least that's how it was in the Dallas areas like Las Colinas, Coppell, and sections of Plano. Even Denton County was like that - rich areas had less crime.

Actually, it's probably more like "out in the boonies = less crime" All the areas you listed are a long drive from the inner city areas. (although I will grant you that it is probably a combination of several factors) I remember a study in California that showed that crime followed public transportation. Typically the wealthier areas don't need public transportation as long as the maid has a car. :p

I'm out in the boonies, and the main "major" crime out this way that you hear about is people getting busted for growing pot. I think there are fewer crimes against people here tho. I've been trying to train attack cows, but they just don't train well with range cubes as treats. :(

None of the cities I mentioned are in the boondocks, really. Las Colinas is in the thick of Irving, Coppell is a stone's throw away from that. You cross a pair of train tracks and you jump from $3mil houses to $65k houses and high crime.

Plano might've had less break ins and such, but that's because everyone that lives there is too busy getting high. ;)
