Found this yesterday through Fark and thought that since we had a few military (and other firearms enthusiasts), it might be worth a few chuckles, and it's informative to boot!

<a href="http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/133585.php#weapons">"Informal" military rating of current firearms</a>.

(Note: I wouldn't put too much into the political aspects of the letter, but the actual points about the firearms is pretty interesting)

I'm surprised they didn't anticipate (or do something to limit) the problems with M-16s and the dust/sand. It's not like they don't have a history of such problems.

Gotta love the 30 cal round for effectiveness.

I have a friend who owns an AK-47, the real thing, not a chinese wanna be, and another friend who has his class 3 (security for a nuclear power station) who owns all sorts of m-16s and m-4s. I agree totally, the ak-47 was ripping things apart, vcrs, tvs, printer, nintendo, a can of chilly, trees, etc. The m-4 was just punching holes in stuff, like shooting a .22 at it, it felt so weak. As far as range, we were able to shoot a 14" fry pan from about 350 yards away.

If I was defending myself I would want an AK-47.

The purpose of the .223 round isn't to kill. It was specifically designed not to kill.

An injured soldier takes two more soldiers out of the fight against conventional enemies who care about the well being of their soldiery.

A dead soldier only takes himself out of the fight.
