I heard from a reliable source that all spells from 61-65 will only be usable in the planes. If you try to cast any of the 61-65 spells anywhere other than the planes, you get a message like "that spell is not usable here" or something like that.

Has anyone else heard this rumor? Or does everyone else already know this and I'm the only one who didn't hear about it? that'd be a huge disappointment if it were true.

Wrong INFO you got... read Quote below...

------------QUOTE----------------------------------------
PLANES OF POWER: MAGIC, OCTOBER 8, 2002
------
Will there be new spells released for the classes with the Planes of Power expansion?

Certainly. There will be somewhat more than 150 new spells for Planes of Power.
------
If so, will this be across all levels as in previous expansions or just in the 50+ or 60+ areas (since this is a high level expansion).

The new spells are for the new levels from 61 to 65.
------
Can you gives us some details on how the spells will work (i.e only in the Planes or will they work anywhere)?

They’ll work the way spells have always worked. We don’t plan to restrict them to the planes.
------
How will any new spells be acquired?

You should find some that can be purchased, some quested, some dropped. We’ll probably use all three methods.
------
Will we be seeing more ancient spells arrive with the expansion?

No spells with Ancient in the title for Planes of Power. But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be rare spells, but nothing that rare.
------
Will it be critical to have specific spells (i.e. Banes) in order to clear a plane?

Critical? No. Useful… sure. And we’re certainly not ruling out the possibility of bane items or spells in Planes of Power.
------
How will this expansion be used to further develop the caster balancing project which started back in February of 2002?

Only in that we plan to keep the expansion itself and the new levels balanced. We don’t really plan to ‘use’ this expansion to deal with existing balance issues. We’ll continue to work on that as a separate issue. Though we do have some plans to make changes before the release of Planes of Power to affect some much needed changes. We’ll get more out on that soon.

Don't forget to shoot your 'reliable' source. I'll hold him, you pull the trigger :)

Ciao for now!

There is something I have noticed...

There seems to be a very large number of "reliable sources" out there who don't know what they are talking about.

Nearly every post I see saying "I heard < X > from a reliable source", it turns out that < X > is easily proven to be a load of crap.

There is apparently this reliable source that keeps telling everyone this same thing. Fortunately , most people will no longer think of this person as a reliable source.

Well, at least they're reliable in saying the same wrong thing...

The reliable source works for VI and is as clueless as we are IMO. With the ongoing vicissitudes of VI even the technical director is an UNreliable source

It is the nature of the beast.
