Now that is funny. I do like the one ammendment they kept in. Wonder if that one was left untouched for Cheney?

That's funny. Iagoe read me an article recently that said that the majority of US citizens (like 80% or so) could not name two of the five rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. I managed 4 of 5. We had to look up the 5th one.

You got the same four I did Tinsi. When I looked it up, I realized that I completely take for granted the right to petition my government (aka write letters to my representatives) that I didn't remember that at that time in history, one simply wasn't allowed to write a letter to one of the Lords and not expect there to be major repercussions, possibly including the separation of one's head from one's body.

Apparently you have to be pretty careful about what you say when you exercise your first amendment rights...

VA Nurse Investigated for “Sedition” for Criticizing Bush (http://progressive.org/mag_mc020806)
By Matthew Rothschild
February 8, 2006

Laura Berg is a clinical nurse specialist at the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, where she has worked for 15 years.

Shortly after Katrina, she wrote a letter to the editor of the weekly paper the Alibi criticizing the Bush Administration.

After the paper published the letter in its September 15-21 issue, VA administrators seized her computer, alleged that she had written the letter on that computer, and accused her of “sedition.”

Ok I will admit that I am a bit illiterate - heh - I had no idea what "sedition" was. So, I looked it up on Wikipedia and here is what I found:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_and_Sedition_Acts

Under the Sedition Act, anyone "opposing or resisting any law of the United States, or any act of the President of the United States" could be imprisoned for up to two years. It was also illegal to "write, print, utter, or publish" anything critical of the president or Congress. It was notable that the Act did not prohibit criticism of the Vice-President. Jefferson held the office of Vice-President at the time the Act was passed so the law left him open to attack. While it appears harsh to current Americans, the act was actually much more lenient than the traditional British law of seditious libel.

Although the United States Supreme Court never ruled on the validity of any of the Alien and Sedition acts, subsequent mentions of the Sedition Act in particular in Supreme Court opinions have assumed that it was unconstitutional.

The government is way out of control and this is just another typical example!!
