ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York's attorney general sued another Internet pop-up advertising company Tuesday, accusing it of secretly installing malicious programs on personal computers and sending ads through "spyware" that is already installed.

Eliot Spitzer said Direct Revenue LLC has installed millions of pop-up ad programs that also monitor the Internet activity of users. He asked a state court to stop the practice.

I just take issue with the government filing civil suits. It has the power of regulation already. The notion of the government being able to sue people, but people being unable to sue the government without permission of the government, disturbs me.

I agree, every executive and investor of the company should be thrown in jail.

Every employee from the janitor to the programmers should be picking up trash along the highway somewhere, at the very least.

Screw that civil suit crap.

Putting spyware on my computer is classic nose/face crap.

Now if I were to wish to sue civilly, that is a different thing.

Spitzer has developed quite a track record of taking on cases for the benefit of ordinary citizens, and from the few times I've seen him he seems rather charismatic. I'd say we could be seeing a future President at work here.

Spitzer seems, to me, to be attempting to legislate from the Attorney General's office.
