House considers independent ethics panel (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061214/ap_on_go_co/congress_ethics)

WASHINGTON - House leaders are creating a bipartisan task force on whether to establish an independent ethics panel to police the House, Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi said Thursday.

See you put Dems in charge and stuff gets done! (Especially after having been out-of-power for 12 years). Maybe the lesson to learn here is to totally flip your vote every few years, throw one side out, let the other guys strut their stuff and prove they're better. They'll get the idea that they need to walk on tippy toes to keep the voters happy.

Despite a few stumbling blocks (Murtha thing a few weeks ago) Pelosi has seemed to be more pragmatic than I gave her credit for.

That said who knows how long it will last, but at least Democrats arnt (yet) acting like they have The Mandate from Heaven to lead.

One thing though, how do you keep an independent commission from using it's power to political ends?
