how in the WORLD can I get EQ windows to work having 2 windows up on the same computer? I try to get the 2nd window going but it won't let me. Someone said I had to change something in my EQclient.ini file but I can't find it anywhere. Any help would be appreciated =)

You mean EQ in windowed mode? I have no idea how to do that... they said they never really designed it to allow multiple instances, though it wasnt disabled either...

Most people use EQW for multple instances of EQ on the same machine. And you dont need to do anything special. Although if you dont have a LOT of ram you'll probably want to turn off luclin models. Disabling sound also frees up a lot of memory and helps with running multplie eq's.

I tried 2 instances of EQ the other day, just using the built in EQ ability. It worked, but was painfully slow.

Went back to EQW, worked much better =)

always wondered about the sounds thing.... turn off sound in each instance of eq? or disable the sound card entirely, in device manager?

I think the trick to getting 2 copies of EQ running is to copy your EQ installation to a second directory, say c:\Program Files\Everquest Second Install, and start one copy from your original install,a nd one from the new one.

Yeah regular EQ prefers a 2nd directory if you want to run it twice. EQW doesnt care though.

As for sound, just disable it in the eq config menu. Either that or a quick way to toggle sound as a global option is to simply create (or delete if you want sound back!) a file called nosound.txt in your eq directory. I make the file before I start the 2nd instance of eq so that I wind up having only one EQ trying to use the sound card... cuts down on the conflicts. But disabling it before starting both is a good way to cut down on the memory eq uses.

Yes sound definitely does use some of your memory. I didn't realize how much damage it did in eq till I got mine working about a few days ago.

If you disable your sound, make sure you do it on each account. When you get to the screen with the frog close up, hit options and do it in there on EACH account.

Also you can turn off dynamic lighting. It's nice to have on, but rarely is it needed...unless you're playing barb/human/eru and need to carry a light source with you. If you have a vision spell or item, then you really don't need it on at all. That will make things on your fxcard a bit better.

Also if you leave eq in windowed mode, that seems to reduce lag as well. Everything is much darker for me, but certainly helps at times.

Personally I play with just about everything off most of the time. I'm on a crumby outdated machine, and have grand ol Cox Com for an ISP...never know what your connection with be like with them (stability, speed etc). Almost all models off, dynamic lighting off, spell graphics off.

Only problem with turning off all the models, is horses. When you don't have models on, it makes a generic human to represent the horse. The problem here, is that the human model doesn't move at all, it's stuck where it was summoned. It also blocks your movement and targeting if it's in the way. So if you're in tight quarters, it takes up space.
