Hello everyone, I am getting Everquest on march 29th for my birthday. It will be my first time playing. I have seen my dad play and I loved to watch him. Now I have a job and can play to. My dad doesn't play anymore though :(
I love nature so I would think a druid is perfect. I do as much research as I can but I have a few questions.
My dad says kiting is when you snare a mob then root it then DoT it... I was hoping you guys could explain more... thank you
If anyone has any advice I would apprieciate it alot... I will keep reading and posting... thank you guys.

Well there are few methods of kiting. The one your dad is referring to is called root rot. You snare mob, root it and stack all your dots. The magic ones stop and the fire debuff plus any higher level fire ones you get will stack.

The hole object of kiting is to not get hit and keep the mob at distance....it is why druids like outdoor zones.

The other kiting method is called quadding I won't go into that much because I never officially got this skill down except for doing it with a wizzy and he was the skilled one.

If you haven't picked a server yet and decide to come to the Nameless I will be more then willing to help get you started and show you around.

Root rotting is all you can do solo until you get around level 32ish as I recall. Its then that you get your first nuke with area damage that can take 4 mobs at once. When you get there, post again and I'm sure you can get loads of help on quadding.

Good luck LeafWolf! Druids are so fun to play because we have such a wide range of things we can do and don't necessarily need a group - that is what soloing/kiting is about.

I am on the Tunare server and am a casual player (I do not do end game raids) and would be more than happy to help you out as well. I hope you have a great time playing, even if you decide not to stick with a druid - Everquest can be a great game!

On low levels, it's better to melee mobs to get your defense up. Using Damage Skin/Shield on yourself, usually you can solo till level 30ish by just fight toe to toe against the mob. This helps tremendously in later levels.

Then you have several methods to kite. Ensnare is almost a must -- it is almost impossible to kite a mob without ensnare it first. Then you have several choices.

First is to use your dots, stack them to the mob (most of your dots will stack). You can root the mob if it does not break root often, or just run with the mob on your tail (the latter is the real kite, while the former is called root-dot). Also, if the mob is an animal, you can fear it while dotting. You just sit there, waiting for the mob to come back after fear wears off, then fear it again. This is called fear-kite, and it requires no social mobs nearby (so that the feared mob does not bring friends back).

Second is to use your AOE DD's to do quad-kite. You need to run in circles to get 4 mobs in tight formation then nuke them all at once.

Third is to charm an animal as your pet, and agro the mob using your level 1 fire dot. The mob will be angry at you so it will neglect your pet's attack. This is called charm-agro kite.

Fourth is to charm an animal as your pet, and fear the mob (also an animal). This is called charm-fear kite.

I don't know why everyone has left out the most obvious of kiting methods. Once you enage a mob type /exi to show the mobs weaknesses. That command is a must make sure to hotkey it.

/ex
/exi
/exit

All do the same thing, disconnect you from the server and close EQ. If your fighting something, your apt to die in the process.

Same goes for /q

Be nice to a newbie =p

Nice to a newbie? Be nice to the veterans too! I was trying to bring up the tribute window during a raid once, someone said in TS it was /q and I entered it without even thinking about it. Aargh!

Felt pretty stupid, but recently, they got a veteran SK too. SoB's.

Hey and welcome! So nice to hear that there are still new players to Everquest :) If you happen to come to Firiona Vie server, toss me a tell anytime. FV has very friendly and nice community, but unfortunately not many lower level players. Anyways, I hope you enjoy gaming and your Druid!
