View Full Forums : Does this violate the EULA?

One of my guildmates is dislexic. His friend wrote a little program that sends a lot of the text messages to a verbal message via your speakers. Since you must have your log on for this program to work, I am assuming it does not violate the EULA. It does not affect game play any more than, say, a parsing program would.

Here's the program site: www.seckmonster.com/eqmon/info.html (http://www.seckmonster.com/eqmon/info.html)

I don't plan on using it, but could see how someone who had difficulty reading quickly (e.g. dislexia) would find this invaluble. I'd just hate to see him get in trouble over it.

Parsing log files does nothing to the running copy of EQ so no violation at all.

On Magician's Tower (http://forum.magecompendium.com/tower/viewtopic.php?t=6784) a thread was posted talking about EQWatcher which is a program that uses your log to make sounds when it comes across certain phrases.

Scott Hartsman, Technical Director posted this:
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Hey there. :)

Anything whose sole interaction (from EQ's point of view) is to read a log file isn't something that we really get excited about.

When people start screwing with memory and/or net traffic, especially if it's done in a way that can impact the gameplay of others -- That's when we get a little ticked off.

That said - Audible tell notifications is a pretty cool idea for an in-game option...[/quote]

So, seems like it'd be ok.

Slightly OT, but that Scott Hartman quote inspired me.

I would like the trader purchase and browsing actions to have an optional sound.

I would love to hear a "doink" while I am afk to know I am being browsed or just sold a piece a junk.

Yeah, I'd like that too since I often turn off the moniter when I go into trader mode. Would be nice to know if I sold anything without having to go back and check while I'm in the same room.

I believe the UI was originally intended to allow sounds when you did thinks like ran your mouse over certain buttons. There are several lines in the coding that look like they'd support it. I guess they either never got it to work, forgot about it or it's not a priority.

EQWatcher is pretty amazing, I've used it for years, written quite a few scripts for it. Including one that times buffs and prompts you when it's time to renew them. I also wrote a bazaar module for it that makes cash register noises and keeps logs of who buys what.

It's got an entire scripting language. You can write your own scripts for it or download scripts others have written. Or you can use write commands using it's built in triggers and timers.

Makes it really hard to miss a tell with EQ watcher running.

This inspired me to update my EQWatcher bazaar script. It "thunks" when someone browses you, makes cash noises when someone buys stuff and tells you when your trader gets disconnected. Plus it keeps track of everything you sold in your Storyline files.

The bazaar log already keeps track of everything you sold, right? I don't understant what that part of what your script does.

Formats it nicely, keeps a running total and lets you see it in game via storyline files rather than having to tab out. Just a nicety more than anything. I never go back and look at the raw data because there's all sorts of ugly stuff you have to filter through, like everytime you did a "list items" or go into bazaar mode.
