Curious for input on when its "time to quit". . .

What I mean is -- I have played EQ for about a year and 3 months now... just dinged 60 the other day (accident really.. didnt plan on dinging 60 till I got moonfire, consequential killing dinged me, and I managed to pick up moonfire later that day). I dont know if I am really all that interested in everquest anymore.

I belong to a guild (recently made an officer) that is falling apart rather fast, my friends on eq are always pissed off (problem with passing trials and such), and I just dont have the urge to log on as much.

I put it as "addiction" in my subject because I was never really addicted to it. I stayed away when I wanted to (or real life came up hehe), but enjoyed playing -- mostly...

I have been playing with a 3 person group -- me, and a friend of mine who is twoboxing a necro and cleric (level 62 necro, level 62 cleric, with me a level 60 druid). He's always upset about not getting in a trial group and I dunno if its just bringing me down also... We started livening up our play by killing "boss mobs" (kunark level heh) with just us 3. Our latest win was the monk epic mob (deep, varash (sp?), and xenovorash). Our latest failure was trying Venril Sathir (not vsr) -- turns out our idea that level 60+npc's were immune to most kunark level procs was wrong hehe...

I dont know... just haven't really had the urge to log in and play all that much. Right now I am using EQIM as messaging service to my other friends on eq but at the moment its behaving as a glorified irc. Dont know what I am really trying to ask except "When do you know you should quit." I mean, I sometimes play and have a bit of fun but most of the time its not that great. Last month or so I was having a good time playing but after the last patch which removed the "horse without luclin models bug" I have really really not enjoyed eq. I dont care who says "j00 sux0r exploiter scum" -- screw off if your planning on posting that... I found the horse head in my way, the start/stop time moving a bother, and the "cant duck" item to be the REAL gripe. I heard lizards were better so I turned in my horse and bought a lizzie.. so now I look like a halfling riding a bucking bronco -- still cant duck, still start/stop slow, but at least no head in the way.

Prob not making much sense... me and my friend had our cleric/druid combo as the 2man CH chain for his pet as needed.. we always seemed to be casting at same time and we would call who would make the heal. We just couldnt do that anymore (he had a horse also)... Prob sounds a stupid thing but it just stopped eq being fun for me. I guess I just enjoyed not having to take time to sit between spells (or click off horse, then duck) to get to the same goal... And yes, we fought mostly in outdoor areas.

If the horse change was reversed I would prob have fun again (at least to some extent) but I am not posting this to try to convince some dev/etc to change.. figured noone would bother looking in ooc...

I guess what this entire rambling speel was meant to say was I just don't think I am having fun with everquest anymore, I am not playing it at the moment, and I am wondering if I should even bother keeping my acnt. You might say "why keep an acnt if your not playing" -- I dunno.. just hoping, maybe, that the devs would change some things. Make level 64-65 spells available for a casual gamer, reverse the horse nerf, and stop making me fear every single patch. I guess thats the thing -- whenever I see a patch message I start looking to see what "fun thing" was taken out or nerfed.

Some people, I guess, end their boredom by changing into a raiding guild that is going places. Doing upper velious/luclin/pop content, trying new things, finding strategies... /shrug... I thought about that, but honestly -- I checked the guild recruiting boards on my server and they flat out say people should play 7 days a week, 15 hours a day raiding, and can miss like 1 day a week, 2 with permission, etc... I enjoy reading books, spending time with my fiancee, etc.

Don't know how I really feel about eq right now. I remember when I first started playing -- everything was new, high level players seemed godlike, and there seemed to be much more communication between devs and players. It just isnt that way anymore...

Dont know what I really want people to respond to.. in fact, dont know if I really want people to respond. I figured I might as well stick my thoughts down some place and the DG seems to be a good place since I have been here for a while. In truth, I doubt anymore would take the time to read this giant meandering speel.. ah well...

You might say "why keep an acnt if your not playing" -- I dunno.. just hoping, maybe, that the devs would change some things.

Why would they change things if you keep lining their pockets? Every company loves a customer that keeps paying but doesn't use the service.

Cancel your account. Vote with your feet. If you do relapse in the future, you can start from where you left off in about 5 minutes.

When you do relapse, just don't expect the game to be as fun as it was when you started.

You should stop playing when it is no longer fun. If it becomes fun later, you can always start playing again (your characters will still be there unless you delete them). I've quit 3 times now, the most recent about 6 weeks ago.

In the previous times, I missed it immediately and ended up coming back within a few weeks. This time I don't miss it a bit and the money I'm saving from my 3 EQ accounts being cancelled and from not buying LoY is nice :)

EQ is an addiction - don't let anyone tell you differently. I admit to being totally addicted to it while playing. That carrot is always dangling just out of reach for you to try and grab, so you log in and grind towards that 'carrot' even through all the infuriating, maddening, and sometimes downright stupid things you have to put up with in EQ to play.

I played for 3 and a half years and what do I have to show for it? All my friends on line have quit playing. I'm left with a 58 druid, 56 monk, several alts, no epics, and no 'uber' items. But I also have a few more pounds around my midsection, elevated blood pressure and mild carpal tunnel syndrome (from doing tradeskills). And I paid a monthly fee for this?

The thing is, if it were not for some of the nerfs lately, I would probably still be playing; that 'carrot' of 60 is still dangling out there. My druid is just a few pieces from her epic. Lots of carrots to pursue...

But the nerfs are becoming too much. My monk was my main - monks got nerfed hard. So, I started playing my druid again as my main, then heal agro got nerfed and charm is under the nerf bat next most likely. Lately Sony has been nerfing things right and left for a lot of classes. That takes the fun out of the game when a character you've played for so long suddenly has massive changes overnight with no warning.

So they no longer have my $39 a month (for 3 accounts) and I never bought LoY, saving another $50-$60. Will they feel it in their pocketbook? Probably not, but if enough people do it they will :)

I think that yes, you should cancel your account. Like they said, you can always get it back if you want. But cancel and delete EQ from your computer. See how that feels. Get the ICQ numbers or whatever for the friends you have left who still play so you can chat with them. Spend time with your fiancee. Read a book. Learn a new cookie recipe. Whatever.

On the other hand, if you want help getting the 3 of you through the trials, I know a 65 enchanter I can twist into helping, as well as a 65 wizard and druid. =)

Quitting EQ is easier than it seems.

Cancel your account, delete EQ from your computer and plan to do those things you've been putting off because of you made choices to play EQ instead.

I can almost guarantee that you'll feel relieved you won't have the burden of playing EQ when you quit. Plus you'll save a bunch of money. Use that money for friends or family.

One thing about people with addictions, they tend to latch onto something else with equal tenacity. Try and be balanced with what you spend your time on in the future.

Quote:
Plus you'll save a bunch of money.[/quote]I would have to disagree with that statement.

I played one account for 3 year, and added a second account during the last year. If we use $11.00 a month, it is a total of $528.00 in subscription fees. Add the software cost, each expansion times 2, let's say another $240.00. I had a total of 200 days played on both accounts (active play, no bazaar mule, etc...). That's 4800 hours. Average hourly cost : 16 cents. It is really hard to beat that for entertainment.

There are a lot of good reasons to quit EQ when it stops being fun, but cost is not one of them :)

I think I'm in the same boat. Haven't even logged on in 4 days and this is a pattern that's been forming. I just keep thinking of better things to do nowdays. After 3 years the game is just getting the be the same thing over and over.
