I just think the combat system would be a contrivance.

I mean, you have essentially 2 types of weapons in SW. Light sabres and laser guns, right?

Typical fight:
You hit a_nauseating_Gundun for 32,000 hit points melee damage
You have slain a_nauseating_Gundun
You gain experience
A_annoying_Gundun hits you for 32,000 hit points of laser damage
A_annoying_Gundun hits you for 32,000 hit points of laser damage
You are slain by A_annoying_Gundun
Returning to home point

I am not a big Star Wars fan, but I'll try it if it is different enough from EQ.

The last thing I need is an 'EQ in space' experience...

I won't, but it's not based on SoE - I hate Lucas, with a passion. I think people who saw Star Wars were blinded by the eye candy and couldn't see that the actors were crap, the plot was crap, and that a group of two year olds with flashlights and sandbuckets could do a better job at acting.

I'm gonna try SWG, if only for the memories of when SW was something.

So far I don't seem to be trying anything because no one will let me in their STUPID BETAS.

What the HECK is with this CRUD? I remember back with UO and EQ you signed up for the beta when it opened up and YOU GOT IN THE STUPID BETA. The same was even true of Anarchy Online.

Now I've been signed up for shadowbane forever, resigned up like 3 times due to problems with them not being able to keep track of beta sign ups or junk, and its coming out in a month and I've STILL never got a test email or login.

SWG is in a couple months and STILL no email or login.

Mmorpgs are hit and miss enough that I'm sure not BUYING one I've never tested. That means I probably won't be buying any of late since they don't let me in.

Its not a VI problem with me, SWG will be about as far removed from EQ as you can get. WoW does look good and horizons

Looks fantastic, with cool stuff about housing and such. The recent download movies like number 6 really look great too. The npcs actually move their mouths in that game when talking to you.

I hear ya there! I've applied for almost every beta in the past 4 years and not gotten in to any of them :(

Is there something special that people do to "enhance" their applications? :)

And no, I won't be playing SWG. After my experience with EQ, Sony/Verant will have to try damn hard to get me to buy a game from them again. Plus, sci-fi games just don't really appeal to me - I'm more a fantasy player :)

I love Star Wars.. sorry Stormhaven. But to play it online does not appeal to me at all. I am not into that kind of roleplay/sci-fi game. Once I am done with EQ I will problably not pay to play another online game like this, just too time consuming.

Have you guys seen this (http://www.fohguild.org/forums/showthread.php?s=39b60fc791ba62b20e512d61e959a844&threadid=5779&perpage=1&pagenumber=25). It seems several of the big features have been removed from SWG, so they can be held back until the first expansion...

It sucks if so many features are removed from the game just so you have to buy then in a later expansion. Of course this also means they have more time to perfect those features.

Me, even though they say it is very EQ like.
I wish it were based on the EQ2 engine.

Oh well, at least the rules and what not are different.

Oh and combat is far better than EQ where it is one button...right.

I mean damn there are 15 melee and 30 some odd ranged moves in SWG.

Also the promised spaceship expansion.....who knows we may see it within the first 2 years.

I'll play it for a month and see what happens. The reason I don't like it is that they decided to make it SCS (Single Character Servers) so you only get a whopping 1 slot. Get bored playing your smuggler? Oh well. STFU, delete your character, or go to a new server.

I don't like that. :p

Hrm... sounds like EQ! Actually the people at Star Wars Galaxies have said they will release those after launch as a free patch, not as part of any expansion. We'll see.
