Anyone have any experience with running EQ (or other games) and multiple monitors? I got a GEForce4 Ti4400 and I just tried connecting my old monitor to the DVI-I out, and I'm trying to set it up so that when I play everquest (or for that matter any game) on the primary desktop, I'd be able to browse and do other stuff on the second desktop. Any help would be appreciated.

If I recall correctly, EQ did not support multiple monitors, and basically only showed up on the one you designated your primary monitor. The rest just went into standby.

There is only one way to do what you want with EQ....

EQWindows.

Since that program is technically a violation of the EULA, I will leave it up to you to find it for yourself.

EQWindows is a god send for raids, no more writing loot down and updating later :)
EQW on one monitor database on the other, beware though sometimes EQW's command keys have a habit of leaking through to other apps especially in high lag situations

They need to either allow Alt-Tab in EQ, or make EQW permissble under the EULA.

Its rediculous.

I think if they started enforcing the eqw usage and banning then they'd have to ban close to 75% of players of eq

The justification for banning it, I seem to remember one of the CS reps saying, was to try and prevent people from alt-tabbing to "hack" programs (to increase your hits to 999999 etc) and cheating the game.

My points:

1) There are lots of anti-hack monitors running looking for anomolies. You hack, you get instant perma ban. Would anyone even get away with running a hack program nowadays or dare to try?

2) Anyone who does fit into the above criteria is not going to care whether EQW is against the EULA or not anyway, and they'll probably find a way to make sure they don't get caught. So the only people suffering are the people who want to use it legitimately.

Several computers here networked though, so it doesn't bother me :P

EQW is not actually forbidden by verant. In fact, when ever a verant rep answers a question about what IS forbidden, he more or less says that EQW is fine since it does NONE of the things he says are forbidden.

He never says its forbidden for you to have control of your desktop and be able to play EQ in a window. He rather just says its forbidden for you to use a program that gives you an IN GAME ADVANTAGE, such as displaying spawn locations, ground spawns, altering lighting (like seeing very well though you are a human at night), giving you a compass (of course since the updated UI you can scratch that ;) )

Since playing in a window does not fall under any of those things, verant itself is giving you leave to use EQW while not actually saying "You crazy kids use EQW all you want!"

The reasons why they originally did not want alt tab to work or playing in a window was because they naively thought those would be tools used for hacking (as cloud said) This reason became moot and outdated when showeq showed up, which did it ALL without the need of such abilities.

I'd not be surprised if in the future verant put in the ability to play in a window mode themselves, along with a FAQ about how to do so while running two instances of EQ on the same computer (equals twice the revenue for them per user), while essentially not acting like EQW allowed people to do this for some time ;) This may in fact be one of the reasons why they DON'T specifically mention EQW or playing in a window, they have to KNOW that this is giving them two subscriptions and retail sales per some customers.

That one on altering vision is interesting. I use powerstrip due to the default graphics being rather dark on this system even with EQ's gamma setting set at highest. They ban the use of the software because it *could* be used as an advantage?

That reminds me of the RIAA trying to sue most of the internet because it *could* be used to share music. Same sort of principle.

Primarily because Verant would then be required to support it, or at least field questions/bugs about it. For this reason, and this reason alone, I think we will never see Verant actually say it's OK to use EQW. Denying it's illegality is absolutely NOT the same as Agreeing to it's Legality.

And I do use EQW on one of my puters, but for an extremely strange reason -- one of my monitors cannot run at low resolutions, and EQW lets me run at non-screen resolution :)
