Hmm, way to increase customer confidence.
I'll be on Seagate or WD from now on then...

Seagate SCSI: 5 year warranty from a brand name that has been in business for almost 20 years (that I can remember) and consistently the industry leader. What more can you ask for?

I would like the price of their LVD 15k SCSI drives to go down about 70% :(

They already cut the price quite a bit. The 36 Gb Cheetah X15 36LP is only $350 now (it used to be $550, when I bought it). And the 18 Gb version is down to about $200, which is very cheap considering it's still the highest performance drive on the market.

If you need more storage but don't want to spend a lot of money, you could always buy one 18 Gb drive for your swap file, OS, and programs, and then a large IDE drive for your data.

BTW I found it interesting to read today that Western Digital is now downgrading to 1 year warranties, except on Special Edition drives. Since trimming the warranty lowers the cost of production, I wonder if Seagate will follow suit, if only to stay competitive.

Just bought 3 of them - not to bad IMO for the performance.

What is the usual pricing? for 18/36?

For the Cheetah X15 36LP? It's $200 for the 18 Gb version and $350 for the 36 Gb version. The older model, Cheetah X15, is somewhat cheaper.
