i somehow i have gator/gain software installed on my machine and it's creating popup havoc. not to mention really pissing me off.

is there a way to get rid of it beyond popup stopper? like someone know the exe file name so i can dump it? done file searches for gain and gator and haven't been able to find the right file.

Might not help, but www.lavasoft.nu/index.html (http://www.lavasoft.nu/index.html) has an adware program that should kill some crap.
