Lotusfly's list was more a set of guesses than an actual guide. Many on the list were not charmable because they weren't flagged animals, such as Equestrielle the Corrupted.

I don't think a swirlspine seahorse can be dire charmed...I tried it once, and my spell was resisted (with no level limit message). I think old world mobs level 47 and up are uncharmable, the same way they're unmezzable?

Swirlspines have utterly obscene MR.

DC does perform an MR check, but at extreme lure rate (-1000 check), this applies to enchanters, druids and necros.

Anyone manage to DC a ravenous nightstalker in PoN - someone claimed they had but I've never found one that was low enough level.

Also, anyone found any DCable animals in PoS?

The original list from Lotusfly is a decent guide, but as Tuda pointed out, several mobs on that list aren't tagged as animals and therefore cannot be charmed at all by druids... DC or otherwise. For instance, none of the apes in BW are considered animals. Run through the zone doing 'sense animals' and you'll come up dry.

Some other corrections/additions to the list:

Siren's Grotto: there ARE other animals besides Servant Sea Elephants with a level range starting at 46th; I've charmed manatees, walruses, etc.

Grimling Forest: darkwing bats are DCable

Western Wastes: some brontos and mastadons are DCable but it can be frustrating to determine which are low enough until you hit 61st level and 46-47th mobs turn light blue con. Note that on VERY rare occasion, you may find a velium hound of 46th level, but I've hunted there extensively and have only ever seen one; the rest have been 47th or higher.

Lesser Fay: as mentioned, Equestrielle the Corrupted is not tagged as an animal so we can't DC her, but an enchanter might be able to.

Dawnshroud Peaks: I'm pretty sure all wolf varieties are low enough to be DC'd.

Emerald Jungle: tigers (e.g. 'a raging tiger') are DCable. You can pretend to be a beastlord if ya want. ;)

Couple others zones of interest...

Great Divide: any wolf, but grab the drakkel blood wolf if he happens to be up; can be DC'd, hits harder, and has more hit points than other wolves in the zone.

Chardok: chokidai sniffers are the best DC pets, but a growler will suffice if the zone in/out and fort are heavily camped and you don't want to wait. Note that pathing is notoriously bad in Chardok, and there are several places deeper into the zone where a charmed pet may warp back to its spawn point and get killed by locals. Also note that for those who like living on the edge with non-DC pets, wardogs and manglers make for superb tanks with excellent DPS.

Kael: can DC lower level wolves for a bit of extra DPS in a consistent group, but don't rely on them to do much tanking. The higher level wolves are far above DC level.

----
You'd need to write a bloody BOOK to mention all the 40+ mobs in all the zones in which an enchanter can DC, since they aren't limited to animals. I still think our Dire Charm and that of necros should have cost fewer AA points considering the limitation of mob types, and also think some of the new (PoP) zones which have chanter DC targets should have been designed with animals as well. PoD comes to mind... ton of 46th level tsetsian flies (non-animals) for chanters, but not a single rat below 48th.

I believe Apes in Burning Woods are tagged as Undead so they should be DCable by Chanters and Necros.

At 60 with DC, some of the best exp I got was in Vox Pits.

DC bear, haste, manaless thorns, natureskin(hp regen), snare GoT your targets, snare them, and pull them away from the ladder... for fear kiting. About four out of five mobs are still blue, occasion light blue mob. Just watch out for the Ice Witch they put down in there.

Animal fear kite in Vox pits yielded the most exp I could find with Dire Charm.

The wurms in The Grey waste too much time throwing that 50dmg pebble, which makes them good at hitting kiters, but terrible at tanking. You put that wurm up against a Rockfiend and it takes a lot to keep it alive.

Sol B bats were terrible alt exp at 60. They were all light blue, most of the spiders and LDC's were terrible exp.

I floated through SG tons of times, never found a DC'able mob in there, not to be able to just say to myself, I'm going to SG to DC.

Resists in Kedge was well as bad pathing make that zone difficult for DC. Some of the seahorses dispelled too if I remember, meaning you risk losing your DC pet if you can even get one.

If you have reason to be in Kedge, your best DCable pet will be the highest level shark you can find. Just be aware that you will probably lose your pet to bad pathing if you venture very far from where you got it. By "lose" I don't mean that the pet will get killed, though.

Last time I went down there, DC'd a shark, it got lost, and I continually saw faction messages as the shark ate threw a TON of mobs... and my group got several "exp" messages as the shark killed light and dark blue stuff. His health bar always appeared full, but using /pet report health to monitor, I saw him go as low as 18% health just before finishing off an exp mob or two... then he would regen back up to the 80's while eating greenies. He was still alive -- somewhere -- when we left.

Group got quite a chuckle over being PL'd by my little lost shark... only wish the exp had been better. ;)

DC pets take *all* the exp when they go off and solo :(

In Plane of Storms I once had a bear cub (don't remember exact name) DC'd that I would guess was an animal. It wondered by zone in my first time in the zone but I have never seen one since.

In PoJ the rats in the halls make excellent dire charm pets.
My wife had one while we were exping in the enforcer hall. You could see a big difference in how quick the mobs dropped when she had the pet.

Anyone yet discover a way to get DC pets into PoJ trials when the group is transported into the encounter area?

One of the main focuses of these trials is a group's ability to deal optimal damage in the shortest possible time. It therefore seems a bit unfair that one of our best AA abililities for DPS is arbitrarily excluded, while all AAs which enhance DPS of other classes are allowed.

VI does have mobs in PoJ tagged specifically as animals, and those animals are of the exact level needed to DC ... so I can't help but think that it may have been an oversight to block druids from using DC pets in the trials.

No! I've tried too. I started a trial by myself to see if the pet would warp to me. I died pretty fast, but I got the impression that it wasn't going to happen. :(

I doubt you could get a charmed pet to warp to the trial room, since it's physically very far away on the map (the equivalent distance of half a large zone). It might be possible to pull them in there uncharmed, since uncharmed NPCs will warp to you when they're stuck as opposed to their spawn point. Even if that worked, though, you might get a number of uninvited extras and ruin your trial before it starts.

Actually, my list came from running through a certain database querying for "race = Animal", but there appeared to have been some mismatches to those models on live servers. ^_^

How would you get the pet into the Tribunal area in the first place? I doubt the little vermin would see their way to clicking on the blue field of energy to "zone" into the Tribunal room.

Bear Cub in PoS

Kill bears in PoS and the cub spawns
Of course NO ONE kills bears
they have no faction but the storm gruz (whatever) are druids they NEVER mellee dont summon and well you cant pull em till they run oom from nuking you they will just stand where you aggroed them and look at you until your in range to nuke or dot but a mage pet can destroy them since they are so damn MR they just shrug off the nukes and dots.
The Wandering gruzthingys are warriors who summon hit hard (400 to 680) and are just a pain in the @#%$ to kill but if you can get it to a clear area a mage pet can kill with you CHing it.

Exp isnt very good but doing this will cause the bear cubs to spawn.

Do not aggro bears near snakes or trees they will assist the bears, although they dont seem to assist the cub /shrug
