My guild will be heading there at some point in the future.

I can't bear looking through a whole equipment list for the zone...

So, I'd like to ask a favor. If you were a basically Velious equipped 65 druid, what pieces would have you drooling? I'd like to make myself a dream list of 4-5 pieces in hopes of eventually getting 1-2.

Thanks!

VT has too much stuff to drool for a velious geared druid.

Some really nice ones are:

Floating Rune: Kaas Thox Xi Ans Dyek
Stein of Falling tears: Diabo Xi Xin
Elders'armbands of ro: Diabo Xi Va
Ring of Immobilization: Diabo Xi Va
Staff of Lost rituals: Diabo Xi Va
Belt of Dark thought: Diabo Xi Xin Thall
Darkmace of thought: Diabo Xi Xin Thall
Ring of Flamewarding: Diabo Xi Xin Thall
Cloak of glowing embers: Thall Va Kelun
Lightbringer's earing: Diabo Xi Va Temariel
Twilight Shroud: Diabo Xi Va Temariel
Umbracite Hoop: Va Xi Aten Ha Ra
Crown of Ambivalence: Kaas Thox Xi Aten Ha Ra
And stuff from Aten Ra Ha

Problem with making a list of 4 to 5 items and hoping you would get 1 or 2 items is that all the items have a random chance of dropping. Some items very very rare while others a bit common. so on your wish list of 4 to 5 items you might get non of the items you want in a couple of clearings.

A good website to look up on VT loots is

The problem is that if you want to make yourself a dream list, it's prolly better that you look up what drops and what you really want.

...is to build your own wish list.

From what I have seen, every druid in my guild has had different goal items in VT. It depends on a lot of factors:

How much more FT do you need?

What focus effects do you already have covered? Which ones will you use most often (this can be the healer/nuker play style question)? Are any disproportoinately valuable to you (ie even if you don't use them much are they worth a great deal to you when you do)?

How are your resists? Do you care about them?

How soon will you be in elementals?

What are your best gear slots? What are your worst?

Just to give you a concrete example. There are plentiful secondary slot items in VT. I am currently using the Rhag 1 focus stone thingy, though, so my stats on that item are pretty good. Before we started on VT it was my highest mana item, and had great other stats. So no matter how nice a SEC slot item might be, it is less of a priority for me to replace that slot than it would be for someone who is say using an NTOV shield.

Philosophically, there are a few ways you can approach VT.

1) Can work on replacing your weakest items first; if doing that, make a list of your weakest gear and figure out if there are replacements that you like in VT and prioritize.

2) Can look to get a specific set of focus effects. May end up replacing some of your better gear this way, but may be far more empowering for you.

3) Can try to prioritize for the items you are least likely to replace right away in Elementals. ie, if you know for sure you want Elemental sleeves (like me heh) you may not want to opt for VT sleeves, at least not until they get cheap for you, since they are a temporary upgrade. I did this. I saved for the Aten BP since I knew I might never replace it. However, this strategy tends to get you less gear (and less improvement in VT) so once I got my BP I switched to more of a replace the weakest strategy.

4) Can try to replace the maximum number of slots, taking even modest upgrades but opting for more of them. This means you get some of the less desireable VT gear, but if you get say 8 pieces of so-so VT loot, you may actually increase your mana/hp etc more than you would if you saved up and got 3 of the best items instead. Kind of assumes you are in a DKP guild, of course.

One site I know a lot of people like for loot lists is this one. You see the entire loot table of a mob at once so it is relatively fast compared to say looking through the EQMaps list. Most sites make you look at each item seperately. This is the only one I know of that shows them all at once:

<a href="http://www.phantomraiders.org/members/" target="top">www.phantomraiders.org/members/</a>

Depending on the competitive situation on your server, and how often you will be able to clear VT because of it, my best advice is to definitely have a plan. When you first start seeing VT drops, they tend to be so far above anything you have ever seen before that people tend to jump on the early drops, and overspend DKP wise on items which are common or less valuable than other drops.

Be sure you know what you really want, and what you might kind of want if opportunity presents itself. Spending the time looking at the drops is time well spent.

I would also recommend making a what if magelo profile. Try putting together the items you are interested in, and see where they will get you. Try a few different combinations. The answers to what is the best combination can sometimes be surprising.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I've had a magelo profile for a while, but haven't added it to my sig...

http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=440339

I'm working on making some money for ornate boots, for the obvious Mana Pres IV.

Assuming I accomplish that, I see my weakest slots as head, ring, and range. Head... well, I keep hoping my guild will go after Manaetic Prototypes, but we've been busy.

Thanks again for your helpful suggestions!!

Seeing how I just recently finished my Vex Thal key I composed a little goal list for myself. In it I tried to include at least 15 FT, Reduction of spell casting time, and some improved damaged items. I'm not saying that I'm going to get every single one (BP and mask probably for sure), but it gives me something to look forward too.

Just look under my magelo where it says "VT goals".

Crown of Ambivalence
Boots of the Wind
Shield of Energy
Necklace of Endless Concepts

Tiny Bone Bracelet

Those are the drops I was able to win in Vex Thal. My guild is PoTime enabled, and I still wear the:

shield of Energy
Necklace of endless concepts

I carry the rest of the drops in my bags to use when I need them.

Another good DB table would be from Silent Redemption (http://www.silentredemption.org/lootrotation.cgi). :)

Mask of judgement is prolly better but there are tons of great masks for not so many great boots ;)

From VT I still wear the bracelet of darkness (30% mana save on dots is neat), the crown of ambivalance (everything lasts 15% longer, will prolly stick to it instead of elemental cap), book of contemplation (15% haste to all spells, it rocks). Other items that are really worth it are Aten's items really (I think that the shield is a waste but that's just me), the belt of dark thought and the umbracite hoop for the focus, even if IMO it lacks HPs. Also the two arms (Elder Armband of Ro I have never seen drop, and armguard of piety) are pretty good.

Aquila! Good luck with Emp, (if you haven't killed him already ;) ), I am sure you guys will have no prob at all steamrolling him :)

I was a big fan of the VT drops simply due to the amazing amount of FT you could garner in there. For a long time (up until I went eleMENTAL), I used Bracelet of Darkness due to it's cool effect. I also think that the Floating Rune is one of the better pieces in there due to its slot versatility. Dark Mace of Thought is a fun toy due to it's mana drain ability. I used the Crown of Energy for a while but there is still speculation I think over whether its effect actually works. Book of Contemplation is nice too, I used that for quite some time. Of course, if you want to hold out for the really good stuff, Aten's Mail of Judgement and mask are awesome pieces. I hope you guys have better luck getting the tunic to drop than KTF did (14 or so Aten kills resulting in 0 tunics tee hee).

I took the approach of getting what I could when I could. VT drops a lot of loot and you will have lots of chances. My guild has left VT, and there are still some glaring itmes I wish I could have won based on plp. But I aint complaining either. Now I will work on my ele drops. Anyway check out my magelo for my VT gear.

What I was able to acquire the following stuff in VT and they have served me well through the elementals so far. I might replace the hat soon, but the rest will likely stick around a while.

Speeding Thought is 18% spell haste to all spells.

This one is absolutely wonderful. FT (though low amount) and 26% cold nuke focus. It can also be used as a ring OR earring so makes upgrading easier. Just noticed that this isn't showing properly form Alla's. This definately has Chill of the Umbra which is 23 or 26 to cold nukes. Correct stats are

<img src="http://everquest.allakhazam.com/equipment/graphics19/Torch_of_Judgement.gif" style="border:0;"/>

My most prized VT item. Has a large chunk of my FT on one piece. It has GREAT stats, some of the best in Luclin for priests. It also can go in PRI, SEC, or RANGE, which makes it great as well for moving around to upgrade slots.

I could have gotten more, but most other slots I knew would be upgraded in the elementals. We broke the elementals about 2 monthes after breaking into VT, so it wasn't a long wait for me.

Hope this helps a bit.

Mask of judgement is by far the best item for priests, any end game druid/cleric will tell you that Mana prez > FT. Mask does 18% mana prez, the only items that have more and cover all spells are in time.

I've found the Nightcrawler leggings to be super usefull. I won them this saturday and the effect just rules. My cast time on NI has gone from 3.8 seconds to 2.6 seconds before BoR. This has made a huge difference in my ability to save people.
