Everquest has been running for years now but 1 thing has almost completely remainded the same.

For those that like to hop on the server immediately on serverup, from maybe 30 mins before patch "should be" finished to 30 mins after you furiously click connect (or tap enter) until you get a spot in the queue.

Seems if the Queue is full, it sends a denial message to anyone attempting to login. When the queue has a spot, whoever was able to click connect the fastest and get in that spot gets in.

aybe there is a better way?

I am just asking that this be looked at somehow. Increasing the login queue lists to epic proportions would be a good one. You click connect one time and your told you are 1304 or so in line to connect and have it update every K secs. I dont know what can be done, I am just saying that I find it a bit annoying to wonder "is the server up yet?," click connect a LOT until I determine that it isnt, and actually just have been locked out due to everyone else spamming the server.

ake spamming the server with requests a BAD thing to do. If reconnecting made you lose your place in line and go to a guarenteed lesser one.. /shrug.

Anyways, I dont believe this is rant material though it may be -- feel free to move if there is a problem. Just saying I dont much care for the login servers on patch days and was hoping SOMETHING could be done.

Well before that they should have it so you can see the server listings in a "small form" like all those server browsers out there atm. Then atleast youll know if their up or not to even spam.

Atm even when the entire zones are up the server browsers for me dont show the servers entirely up....I gotta guess.

So sure nerf it......but replace it with something better.

Very little data passes back and forth from pressing the connect button. It's like a single packet that either doesn't get a response (times out), gets a no (login server congested) or gets a yes and continues on with the login sequence. Might be nicer to have an auto retry on the client instead of limiting the attempts. Like when denied it trys again every 5 seconds for 5 minutes or something. Would beat pressing connect over and over.

Hell, I'd be happy with a server status message tied to login.

Try to login, but the servers are down?

"Sorry, the servers are down for the scheduled patch, we anticipate servers will be back up at <time adjusted for your dang computer>."

Or:

"The servers are down for an emergency patch. The outage should be 3 hours, ending at <again, adjust the time for your clock>"

Just check <a href="http://eqlive.station.sony.com/support/server_status.jsp" target="_new">here</a> before you log in... if the chat server and/or the server you play on aren't up... then don't bother spamming login... but yeah, they could at least give you a different message if the login server is down.

The only problem is that the server status page at EQlive reflects reality only in that the servers do indeed have those names... Many times, that site is just plain wrong, and even when it's right, it's very slow to update.

I was using a program called EQ Server Scan.

Link Removed

Not sure if it is still working or not. Recently got a new computer and have not installed it yet on the new one.

EDIT: I've never had a problem with the program, it's been out for a long time. But I've removed the link based on the warning below. Easy enough to do a google search if you're curious enough.

Apologies.

I would be really uncomfortable loading up an .exe file from something like the link you posted. It really looks like an unknown entity at first glance.

I am uncomfortable about leaving the link up there as well(I will let someone else change it if prudent), so I advise caution, at the very least, with that link.

I've also used EQ Server Scan for a couple years now with no problems.
