How do you judge dps in your exp group?

Doing exp groups in HoH, etc has let me gauge group DPS based on swarming death. If I cast SD on a mob as it gets to camp and the mob is dead before SD has expired (42sec) then I'm in a group with good dps. If the mob is dead in about half that time, then I feel the AA's filling the tank.

I have always felt like you can pretty well predict the dps of a group based on the class/level make up.

If you are in PoP, and people are 62+ or so, you can pretty well count that the real difference in DPS from, lets say, one monk or one paladin or whatever to the next is not as variable as people let on.

I dunno, I may be underestimating the real life dps swing, but I feel like you can sense from the group makeup and levels if the dps is going to be ok, moreso than really trying to obsess over the actual numbers or timing.

I solo/duo Crystalling Golems a lot in PoV. It usually takes me ~4 mins to kill one and total damage from spells is in the 22-25K range. This works out to roughly 90-100 DPS. My rule of thumb is that a "good" group doing the same mobs should down the mob in <1min from start to finish (380-420 DPS) in order to make comparable AA progress. A "really good" PoV group can do mobs in 30-40 seconds (600-800 DPS) at which point AAXP really flows.

Depends on the group classes. High dps classes are rogue, ranger and wizard. If you have alot of them you have alot of dps then.

I used EQWatcher and it would tell me how long the fights were. If it was over a minute, I'd feel we were definitely not cooking. If it was 40-ish seconds, I was happy.

However, this goes to show you how bad shammy dots are when you have to fight something for 1.5-3 minutes in order to get full use of your dots.

Over analyzing things like this tend to ruin the game for me. I did try EQwatcher once and was unable to parse "fun", so I consider it rather worthless.

Having said that, as long as I have a MoB in front of me and we have another either "on deck" or "incoming", I'm rather happy with the group.

I can understand that, Silly. But a fun part of the game for me is twiddling with stuff. And EQWatcher fit that bill nicely.

EQwatcher is fun. Rule of thumb for group DPS: Don't use your thumb for dps. Worry more about stringing kills together, staying alive and having fun than about min/maxing. AA's that are had by having fun come much quicker than any you'll get maxing DPS -- even with your thumb. ;)

Rogue are more obsessed with DPS than any other class. If I were to say there was one "Rule of Thumb for Group DPS" it would be not to listen to a rogue. No offense Panamah, I understand the obsession. I have a 65 rogue myself and constantly parse its damage against all sorts of different mobs. As a druid though, I'd be more inclined to agree with Lotharun.

It's true, Jig. It's all we can do really, other than sneak up behind druids and pants 'em.

You can probably maximize your xp better by making sure you have something new coming while the old one is just about to keel over. Sometimes I prefer a ranger to pull because monks take too long! ;)

More seriously, I'm an inveterate parser. My 1st 3 pages of spells are all arranged by frequency of use. I know that it takes me 5:09, on average, to rot a toiler in ME. My latest project is to reach my theoretical aggro-cap DPS with Wildfire.

Either you're a geek, or you're not. :)

Best group I was in was Cleric/Enchanter/Ranger/Ranger/Paladin/Necro.

3 AA in 3 hours in BOT.

Note the absence of any rogues. Note that the cleric/enchanter put out little DPS contribution to this group.

Bric, I suspect you and I could shop here: www.geekculture.com/geekc.../caps.html (http://www.geekculture.com/geekculturestore/webstore/caps.html)

Oh, pants don't drop? How do you go to the bathroom? Have a little cut out in the back?

Yeah, yeah, rangers are outdamaging rogues these days. That's cool. Just give me snare, brushfire, all your self-buffs, Chloroblast, harmony and I'll be happy!

How 'bout a NE tactics group with a Pal, rogue, monk duo boxing a chanter, mage, cleric, and me boxing another monk. The chanter and second monk were outside of the group, so we were effectively, PLing ourselves. Roughly 3 aa's in an hour and a half.

And IMO, Mages > rogues in DPS terms.
