View Full Forums : So... what's up with Augments now?

Ok, just curious after yesterday's Adventure Merchant kidnapping, what is up with augments today?

I heard a cleric say all the slot 7 type augments he bought yesterday are now slot 8 and he can't use them and he's stuck with them because no one will buy them back.

Better to ask what's down.

The answer? The servers, of course, as the patch to the patch is patched!

I'm so confused over these changes.

It seems like they added a lot of effects yesterday, Vengeance IV, see invis, some focus effects...

Then they changed the 2, 2, 3 slots on the 1492 armor to 1, 2, 3. Yet now there aren't any slot 1 effects you can buy.

Now they've change the slot 1 on existing armor to slot 7.

Now they've changed the slot 7 effects they added yesterday to slot 8.

I'm dizzy.

End result: People have a lot of crap they can't use now. I have no idea whether LDoN armor has been nerfed to heck by changing the slot 2 to a 1.

I've browsed through Mistmoore, Guk, Takish (where I can see all of the items) and Rujarkian (where I can see up to 1000 only).

Bottom line, there are a number of good Type 7 and Type 8 augs now, for existing gear only. The most interesting ones were: Pristine Prism of Lucidity, LORE, Type 7, Flowing Thought II (1450 points in Guk); Radiant Prism of Lucidity, LORE, Flowing Thought II (1450 points in Mistmoore, uber only); Jagged Gravestone of Affliction, Type 7, Extended Torment IV (1450 points in Mistmoore); Sparkling Ruby of Fortune, Type 7, Extended Blessing IV (1450 points in Takish).

Note that Extended Torment and Extended Blessing are only 10% extensions, so they are weak versions of the real effects, but still nice to have nonetheless.

There are now buyable "all slot" augs, but they are complete garbage. We're talking 5 ac, +8 sv dis/pois, +8 cha/int, stuff like that. No hp, no STA, no mana, no effects. They were quite thorough in their systematic nerfing of LDoN gear.

Old LDoN armor is protected by the grandfather clause. If you bought it before the patch, you will have two type 2 slots on it instead of a type 1 and a type 2.

That's SoE's new strategy. They confuse you so much that when you nerf you, you don't even realize it. You might even believe it's an enhancement and be happy.

Make no mistake, though. LDoN gear has just been nerfed massively and the casual player will suffer while the uber player has not only kept the status quo, but has been somewhat enhanced with new augs for uber-only equipment.

my question is this:

if the old world armour that HAD a type 1 has been changed to a type 7, can you now use the type 3 augs for ft, regen, foci, etc... in it?

it was my understanding that you could use an aug of equal or lesser value to the slots value, but i haven't played around with ldon crap much so i never verified that....

So it seems like the old Ornate bazaar armor might end up being a LOT better than the new LDoN armor.

This is just insanity.

There is no corelation between the types. Type X must allways go in a Type X slot. The only exception to this is a Type 1 augment, which can go anywhere. Though with the patches who knows what's up now.

so those tagged 'any' can go in slots typed 1-8
those tagged '1' can go in slots typed 1-8, but there are none available atm.
those tagged '2'-'8' can only go in a slot with equal value and nowhere else.

this confuses the hell outta me in regards to the 'any' augs and 'type 1' augs.... wtf?

No, it's just typical SoE.

Dangle a carrot in front of the players.
Take their money.
Let them enjoy two weeks of a good game until they're hooked.
Then nerf the bejesus out of them.
Wait until players are completley disgusted.
Then release a new expansion, repeat the loop.

Note that ubers are typically excluded from the "nerf" part of the loop.

Heh, all this nonsense makes me happy I've only done 5 adventures so far. I'm pretty close to just writing the whole expansion off as if it didn't exist.

Frankly, I am almost done with it myself.

Don't get me wrong, there is still some decent gear available through the process but the RvR is coming unglued. Prior to the changes one could at least look at obtaining an excellent piece of armor for that odd slot. Say you figured you would not see that nice shoulder-slot ever (as the guild had moved on or whatever). One could pick up the so-so LDoN shoulders, add a metric-@#$*ton of expensive augments to it and end up with an excellent piece. Now that is out.

Instead there is a steady stream of decent but not impressive loot. With a couple of notable excepetions, the good stuff is either simply Hard drops (which are not good to those that can complete Hard missions) or odd items like augable weapons and a number of the spells. The top-end armor is still expensive in terms of points and cannot be tricked out well enough to maintain a good focus. Where one could consider pumping 4500 points into a single slot, now that demands spreading the wealth (and marginalizing more slots) yielding poor results to anyone that raids part-time, nevermind the non-raider.

- Changed pre-LDoN items to have a single slot of type 7 instead of 1. Some
LDoN items which had a slot type 1 were also changed to type 7.

From the 10/9 patch message.

Do they mean only dropped LDoN items? Or are there any AP purchased LDoN items with slot 7?

I don't have enough APs in any of the themes to see the "good" armor, but I've seen at least one LDoN armor piece with a Type 7 slot. It was one of the lowest cost leather armor pieces at the South Ro camp.

None of the high level LDoN buyable stuff I've checked has a type 7 or 8, just 1-2-3 for armor. So it's mainly for legacy gear and LDoN dropped loot.

Incidentally, after more poking around, I did find two semi-useful all-type buyable augs: a +10 STA aug (LORE) at Rujarkian for around 350 points and a +8 STA/+8 AGI aug (LORE) at Miragul, for about 650 if memory serves. There are also +10 WIS and +10 INT versions, both LORE. Obviously, these are nowhere near as good as the type 2 augs, but it's better than nothing.
