I have the Carved Bone Ring (http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=10127) (now called Nightmarish Bone Ring) from Terris Thule with MP4 on it. Something I've noticed is that I get the message that the ring activates when casting heals and buffs, but I don't see the ring message when casting cold nukes or dots.

Is this a bug or is there a reason that the ring message doesn't show up when casting detrimental spells? Also if I'm not getting the ring message, am I still getting the mana preservation?

(The only other MP I have is on the ornate gloves, but that affects Summer's Flame only, and I understand that it overwrites MP4.)

As an aside, Lucy cites the duration as being:
3.0 mins @L1 to 3 hour(s) 15.0 mins @L65
Does this mean I need to reequip it every few hours?

Dunno why it's not showing up for you when casting non summer's flame nukes. The duration means nothing on a worn effect item (such as a focus item) only on a click effect/acutal spell.

And your lucy link is broken, the item name got put as the acutal link, instead of as the link label =-p

heh... thanks for the heads up about the link. :) Fixed it. Seems vbulletin asks for the text first then the url, and I'm used to inserting the url first then the text. :p

Weird, Try /Bug it . Never saw it happen on any of my mana pres items.

I do have Summer's Anger on the Ornate Gloves, but I accounted for that. I also have Sanguine Preservation but that applies to self buffs only. It's when casting cold nukes or dots that I don't see the Ring message that concerns me.

Have you tried only looting the ring and casting a spell while mostly naked to see if it fires?
