I am updating my mobo and video card and have backed up my entire EQ folder onto another hard drive so I can re-format and re-install windows. Once it is re-formatted, I will copy back the entire EQ folder. Anyone know if there is a way to reload EQ without having to re-installed every single disk? Thanks for the help!!

Simply copy back the directory and create a short cut.

EQ doesnt have to be installed if you have a backup of the original EQ install.

The short cut would be something liek this...

"C:\Program Files\EverQuest\EverQuest.exe"

Assuming you are not reformatting your Windows drive (the one containing the registry information) and the letter of the new drive will be the same (which it looks like it will be). This should be doable.

If you are destroying the registry information, it may still work but unforseen things may happen with new expansions that examine the registry for path information. Nothing catastrophic.

I have had this be the case and to fix it I installed EQ from my disks as normal thus getting the registry information properly written then copied my backup to the new directory thus avoiding a nasty long patch.

I don't think EQ uses the registry. I have upgraded/replaced/added PCs several times over the years. Only the first one was "installed". The rest were just complete copies of the EQ directories. Then either a shortcut on the Desktop, editting the Start menu to include a shortcut, or on one PC, I just use "Run.." from the start menu, since there is a buffer for recently run commands, it's always in there.

I've never had EQ problems because of this, and even use EQW and run 2 accounts on one PC, all with no problem.

EQ does not use the registry. The patchers put some stuff in there but only because they use IE routines, and its not necessary to save it. They keys get recreated every time you run the patcher.

But! If you reinstall windows XP and want to be able alt-tab out and such again, you do need to reinstall the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit and change the Everquest entry.

if it starts to download crap.... it's saving your game to another dir... just fix your shortcut and you'll be set. Happened to me and just fixed shortcut and worked just fine.
