I'm just stood on the top of a mast of a ship in Butcherblock and I thought it would be quite a fun place to have a duel as one of you would get knocked off and 20k pretty quickly.

Then I started thinking about a triggered structure where you walk to the center, press a button and the surrounding areas withdraw leaving you stood on a column with a long drop beneath you (same idea as above just implemented in a fancy way).

That made me think about a zone setup specifically for duels with tricks and traps to make them more interesting where you could say earn "duel points" which amount to nothing more than a status symbol for fun.

Pointless idea that doesn't amount to anything other than a bit of amusement from time to time, it'd probably go the way of the arena, don't think it's anything serious, just a quick idea I thought i'd share.

Comments please =)

They could hide a chest of gold on the ship and you could board it with your team, vs the other team, and try to race to the chest, dueling all the way.

Serberuses idea made me think of a fun game I've played called "Swashbuckler". It's basically a barroom brawl set in the Louis XIV time, I think that was the right king. Anyway, you have all this furniture, rugs, tables, a chandelier, beer mugs, cutlery, tables, chairs, etc. You set them however you want, they do get used in the ensuing fight. You pre-plot out your moves and hope they connect with someone else in the bar. It's a riot.

Anyway, everyone has a character they rolled up and a sheet. A brawl breaks out and basically the goal is to be the last guy standing when the Gendarmes (police) come to break it up. :p It's a blast.

But there's a variation on this where you play on a boats. You have two boats lined up and I think the boarding planks are down. Basically, one side is getting boarded, the other side is defending soemthing.

There's yet another variation that has got a Sci Fi theme. Barrroom brawl in space age. The best part is you can have a laser gun, and there's a disco ball in the middle of the joint. So you can imagine the chaos if you shoot your laser at the disco ball....

When I was a young Druid, my guild use to hold guild gatherings in the Arena.

After the regular ceremonies were concluded, it was full-on PvP time. Most fun.

One time, after some wedding or something, between a member of our guild and member of our alliance guild. Wham GFluxes, rains, earthquakes on all the unsuspecting members. Everyone was told to bind in zone; but it is so far from everything some people decided not to, oh well.

Anyway, I never knew if it that there were so many people in the arena, or just a trippy GM; but about half way through our PvP carnage about a dozen tigers and lions were unleashed. Extremely high resistances(for our levels at the time), and tons of hitpoints. Never seen it repeated, nor heard from anyone else that they had that happen to them.

I could never get anybody from any of my subsequent guild to go out there. Even with bribery. Fun Fun.

wow yea i remember those as well, my old guild used to do them as well... we would team the regular members against the officers and the reg members always won even thought the officers were a lot stronger haha. Also we asigned numbers 1-4 to people and make 4 teams each in one corner of the Arena... we counted down and the teams would rush each others. It was pretty fun.

Personally Arena zone would get more use if it wasnt so far out of the way.
I always see people hanging out in bazaar arena. perhaps a single port stone between the 2

Probably a GM, I remember when I participated in one of the best of the best compititions for team combat, one of the GM's spawned animals like you mentioned and used them to keep players in line.
