A European server was the first to unlock a new playable race in Horizons this past week.

Kerech has mentioned some of the event in other posts, but the gist of the process is that...

Crafters reconstruct 4 mines scattered all over the game world. The mines are very resource intensive, and rebuilding them is the work of hundreds of collected hours of time investment, and achieved primarily in teams...

One crafter installs the materials at the site, one or more players transports materials to the installer, and one or more players creates the construction materials near a player town. Just to give you a sense, an individual runner can generally carry only about 12-16 construction units at a time (they weight 150 each), and the most efficient installers use 2 resource units per construction unit. And there are generally several thousand total construction units needed for these big projects.

At any rate, the mines were guarded by monsters (undead Satyrs) who need to be kept at bay by adventurers...and periodically larger attacks are made by the monsters to drive the crafters out.

Once a mine is complete, you can go down into tunnels and find a teleporter that takes you to a distant island that is under the thrall of the enemy. There is a seperate island attached to each tunnel, so 4 islands. The island is populated by very dangerous monsters (satyrs who are corrupted) and adventuring parties must fight through and gather some stone and metal resources.

Once the items are gathered a jeweler makes a token that can be put in a weapon socket. This is essentially making your weapon into a bane weapon ala EQ.

Once you have a properly socketed weapon, you will be able to do damage to the machines that are on the islands. Each machine has some outrageous number of hp (like a million in a game where high level monsters have 3,000 to 5,000). A raid party goes to the island, fights off the monsters protecting the machines, and destroys the machines with their bane weapons.

The story on all of this is that the machines are counteracting the basic characteristics of the Satyr character - like song and such.

Once all 4 machines are destroyed the Satyr race is freed.

Europe's Earth server was the first server to complete the entire process and free the Satyrs. The server Kerech and I are on is one of the leading US servers in the effort (good work Kerech heh you do a lot on it I have been playing late so slacking off on it abit).

And voila, a new playable race is available to players. Not dead sexy like I would have hoped, but very Satyr-y ....
EDIT: Wait, this image is MUCH better...

Maybe the devs got scared by all the Janet Jackson hubbub! 8P

The general consensus seems to be they are like seahorses, and the men do the baby stuff ; ).

Funny thing, though...they probably did it so it would not seem pron-y. But somehow it does make them seem a bit more obscene.

They also clearly demonstrate the danger of giving player's the ability to set their own bust size (which Horizons very clearly does).

Hehe, yeah it looks odd to be so well "enhanced", but with no nipples though. :)

Meh, I really, really don't care for the face/hair models either. The oddly fake looking boobies I can overlook, but those hairstyles are just ugly.

That isn't really hairstyle. The hairstyle is seperate and lays on top of the fur.

The fur...that is part of being a Satyr. I actually was kind of pleased with the designs they chose. I felt they matched pretty well with my image of what a Satyr would be. Brutish and bestial are how I have always heard them described (and yet they have an odd animal charm, or so I always heard it said).

Um no one knows about satyrs? Satyrs are only male, they are the male offspring of a union between a human woman and a Satyr.

Yah...that has been discussed a lot too, but of course the only ungendered player characters in HZ are the dragons.

I don't think MMOG developers avoid any opportunity for bust size sliders that they can get, any more than the players do ; ).
