Not quite a rant.

I made a druid. I've been grouping with one on and off from my guild since I started playing my mage, (I'm a newbie, i've only been playing about 8 months, She's been playing since the game came out.)

Admittedly I'm only level six. (I know, I know. wuss me. But I've only been playing her four days on and off) And one of the reasons I started the druid was because I was fed up of getting "SOW PLZ K THNX" when I was playing my mage. (Um... *looks at self, robes, and pet sitting three feet away.* Honey, if you can find the spell for me, I'll gladly sow you. Hell, I'll sow the whole of Norrath.)

I'm still getting it. Sitting medding with a guildie the other day, some pally strolled up and demanded a sow. (Note. demanded. He was very not polite.)

"I'm very sorry, I can't sow you." I give him all the buffs I have available.

"£$%£ing droodz. Y not?"

My, what a clever young chap. "It's a level 14 spell." I am not Anon. I am not Role.

"Sp?" I conclude this may mean so. Unless he's asking me how to spell, (which he clearly needs help with since he can't spell Druid).

".......so I'm level six."

"Oh."

I'm already fed up of the use of the word Droodz. And I swear, if I get one more person respond to me with "That's so gay." or one of the almost illegible variances, I will reach through the screen and strangle them. It's not gay. Gay is not an insult.

Besides, I'm not gay. I'm bi. ;)

some pally

Yet you don't mind pally.

Some people are just dumb. I get asked for sow even when I was holding a flaming sword and wearing obvious plated armor.

Haven't run into anyone in quite some time who asked for any buff rudely, must be lucky :) Even had some port requests recently where I couldn't because I was busy and when I replied saying that I was busy they said "no prob" and left me alone.

As for not having a problem with pally, pally at least is an abbreviation, drood or whatever is the same number of letters as druid and often carries the connotation of the KSing, training, ninja-looting druids. Not saying that you have to like pally, but that seems more of an affectionate nickname than drood and its variants. Either that or people can't spell paladin :b Pally for me is like necro instead of necromancer or SK instead of shadow knight and so on, just faster to type, but anyway, doesn't have much to do with the topic so I will stop babbling.

Baptismo, you are the first and only paladin I've ever heard dislike the term "pally". Is it common amongst the paladin kind to dislike "pally"?

***

/comfort on the sow demands
Treat them like telemarkers - give their answer as soon as possible and get off the phone.

"Come to zone X and sow me!"
"Sorry, I'm busy."

If they reply after that, put them on ignore and move on. Go through your ignore list once a month and delete those names you can't remember.

Although I admit I sometimes reply to buff beggers with "If you can find me". Only had one person find me so far - most people get pissed off. But if you want something from me and I can't just /rt you, I ain't coming to you!

Haha I used to that with people who insisted on you porting them too. It was always funny after you had them on ignore for 10 minutes to see them following you around waiting for you to invite them for the port.

Was a pain pre-luclin and the list being limited to (what was it 20?).

My favorites now are people who stand in PoK for over an hour trying to get a port to emerald Jungle. You almost feel sorry for them.

I don't feel sorry for idiots. I just wish someone would kill them and get it over with.

*blush* My bad yes, I use pally. Paladin can be awkward to type fast when you're grouping with one.

I don't mind it when I'm playing mine, and have yet to be told off for it in game.

Thanks for the advice. And telemarketers? I just start trying to sell them stuff back. I actually talked one into changing his locks. ^_^ Hm... maybe I could do that to the sow requesters!

I would much rather Feed a Cleric . then have to PoT9 people over and over again when they forgot to click off the old one when I MGB.

9 out of 10 times, I anounce it in raid say 3 times ..

/rsay MGB POT9 INC take off old now

then I cast..

Did not take hold
Did Not Take Hold
Etc...

then the tells start coming in.

That bugs me . :burn:

I'll usually buff people if I am not busy. I refuse to port to a zone to buff a person unless they are a friend. If someone wants a buff, then they can come to me. Not flagged? sucks for you, find another druid.

Although I admit I sometimes reply to buff beggers with "If you can find me".

I've tried that one also. Then every single time they have asked, "ok, where are you?" Which i then have to put them on ignore or spend time diving them directions to where I am. Which usually turns into me running to a spot they know just so they will leave me alone. I use role a lot more now.

Correct me if im wrong, but doesnt BoT9 refresh both Pot9 and Bot9? As well as Pot9 overwriting Bot9 now?

You may be getting the did not holds from people that didnt click off virt...?

Tiane

Pot9 doesnt overwrite Bot9, but Bot9 does overwrite Pot9. MGB Bot9 refreshes everyone who doesnt have virtue on (i.e. pallies and weird clerics.)

I dont like it for my paladin, my wife does not like being called a pally and I know many of my guildmates dont like it. Pally seems childlike and silly. I know it is a weird thing. But I reserve the name pally for someone who plays his paladin like a 5 year old and most people I know do the same. there are pallys and then there are Paladins. If I am in trouble I want the Paladin. Used to not bother me so much, but I have grown to hate the shortened title.

Oh you have to love the newbieness. Aggie, several of us have been doing this since release. Pre-Kunark (and later Luchin) the tells for GGates for CRs used to be worse. Or EJ succor to go to CoM. Then there also used to be the requests for "Thorns" or "Skin" before Cleric buffs were so easy to get.

Several options to the SoW requests:
1) Set an alternate spell set for buffs and then tell them to wait while you load it. Then inform them that SOE had nerfed your buffs and removed it.
2) cast something that had the foot icon and they run off happy thinking they have SoW.
3) Tell them you will look. Then inform them that sorry it has not magically appeared in your spellbook yet.
4) Tell they you bought T-Boots (or quested J-Boots) with the money you would have spent on SoW and never bought the spell.
5) Tell them you are too Uber to be bothered by their vulgar request for petty buffs.

What Bugs me is when someone asks for SoW and I have SoE mem'ed and cast it on them. Then they send a tell saying they wanted SoW because they don't like the bobbing up and down affect. and buy the time I mem SoW they have usually ran off calling me a stupid Drood. The come SoW me request get a reply for them to come find me. And any request including the word Dr00d gets ignored unless I already have the spell mem'ed and they are standing in front of me (and even then I consider ignoring it). Even worse some guildmates have taken up calling druids "Drudz" since they know I refuse to acknowlege Dr00d.

As for "Pally", I usually just call melee types "Tank" which makes them feel like they are really powerful unless they call me Dr00d in which case I call they "tin can" (or if they make me mad trash can).

And yes my SK and Enc have both been asked for SoW several times. My enchanter at least has a buff with a foot icon but I don't know how they expect my SK to cast SoW.

There are already several stings on the "Dr00d" name and SoW request on this board. You can do a search and see what others have said about it since many have humorous stories attached.

I say play both ...necro and druid!

and if your a higher level necro and a level 46+ pc is bugging you I guess you can tell them about the special buff that necros rarely give out cuz it's so special and see if they are stupid enough to let you successfully cast the sacrifice spell...

as far as the ones who need rides to emerald jungle that cant find one I do have to feel sorry for...or at least the ones who never bought LoY.

I mean a large portion of this game was the thrill (or dread) of having to travel through zones you have never been in..assuming you found a map that showed what zones connect to what zones... Then getting the necessary supplies like invis potions health potions sow potions and travelling on your own.

At least most peeps can use the FoB stone and run for a minute to get to emerald jungle... it's not that tough.

I quit porting peeps (cept for guildies) a long time ago. Potions are cheap and about one of the few places you cant get too sometimes would be Western Wastes (if you die in SG). But just about everything else you can get too either by port stone or by farstone. You just have to use your brain a little.

they need to set up wayfarer's camp and dungeon in WW and if you dont have at least dubious CoV ...oh well....course this is a pipe dream and would never happen.

Although I admit I sometimes reply to buff beggers with "If you can find me".

Haha I ahd this conversation last night in PoK.

someone tells you, "Can you SoW me at the Nexus Stone?"
you tell someone, "No sorry I am not at the Nexus Stone"
someone tells you, "It is for a corpse run" (I am not sure what this means, did I kill them?)
you tell someone, "cool"
someone tells you "Where you at?"
you tell someone, "Little Bank by Doggle Pitt"
someone tells you, "where is that?"
you tell someone, "Here in PoK"

I am not sure how far I am suposed to go to help this guy. There were like 180 people in PoK I am sure if he just stood in front of the nexus stone and did a /say "sow plz" he would have got 4 or 5 before he knew what hit him. How I became the one that was supposed to sow this guy is beyond me. He never did figure out where I was.

Maybe it's the server, maybe it's a level thing, maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems to me that people have been getting more polite in EQ in recent months. Almost invariably now, if someone sends me a tell asking for something, I get a nice request: "Excuse me, but could I trouble you for a SOW?" or "Would you have time to port me to xxx. I'd really appreciate it" or something similar.

It's nice. I hope it continues.

I'm always polite when I request a port or sow. My usual line is:

"Excuse me for troubling you, but could I bother you for a port/sow/virtue/etc/? I have some coin can offer in exchange for the service."

Most of the time, they don't accept the coin. The rest of the time, they're too busy to buff/port. ^.^

As for the SOW problem, I think the worst experience's I've had with people asking me for SOW is when I was on my bard strumming a lute, playing a flute, etc. and people would come up to me in FULL PLATE and go "giv me sow dr00d". (Note, I was not ANON or on ROLE...)

I said "Sure", put the guy in group, clicked on Selo's, and sent him on his merry way.

For some strange reason, my druid hasn't had anyone be mean about it yet. But, I'm pretty sure that there will be a first time for everything in my lil cuties life lol.

As for the use of the words "Pally" and "Dr00d". I have a Paladin, I call her Pally all the time. It doesn't seem like a derogitory (sp?) word, where as "Dr00d" implies that you're an asshat who won't take the time to help others, won't treat others will respect, will KS others, think you're better than others, etc.

Example:
http://69.57.151.222/archive.html?117?#20
http://69.57.151.222/archive.html?117?#21
http://69.57.151.222/archive.html?117?#62
(Thanks to Jeremy Waller for having the best Web Comic ever! www.wtfcomics.com)

Personally, it erks my chain...badly. I was called a Dr00d by some guy in Kurns Tower when I was around level 11. I promptly ripped him a new one.

Well that's my two cents worth (^-^) Shuttin up now before someone throws vegetables or mushrooms at me, lol.
