View Full Forums : Bazaar browsers (not strictly a rant)

OK, this is just an observation that kinda bewilders me (or gives me a chuckle, depending on my mood).

I have a Bazaar mule that's almost on 24/7, and then another on the other PC that's up a lot, but not 24/7 (and definitely not when I'm playing ;P )

Anyway, I keep them right next to each other in the Bazaar. And when I come back from extended AFKs, I browse the trader window to see what I've sold, who's come shopping, etc. And it amazes me, that there are folks who "window shop" in the Bazaar! They just walk along, going from trader to trader, to see what's for sale!

Maybe it's just my male aversion to shopping, but with a "bazaar" window to help you find and home in on what you want to buy, why would anyone do this?

Maybe they haven't figured out yet that the "bazaar" window was enlarged and they have to extend it to see the "find" button. lol I know that had me stumped for a couple of days until someone mentioned it. :p

No, I think they're browsing. People who are bored with xping or finding excuses to not log off yet; they come to the bazaar and just mess around, browsing. Maybe see something they thought they didn't need. It's kinda fun in less laggy areas.

Or maybe it's old customers of yours...they know they've bought good stuff from you in the past, you're always in the same place, so they just wander by and see what you have for sale.

When I first started playing with /bazaar I found that it would not always list all my stuff that I had for sale.

That said, I have never had the inclination to window shop.

i go to regular traders that useually have a good supply of trade skill items. But useually my female senses take over and i get nosey so wandering to them turns into a window shopping spree, but i have found some neat twink items on them wanderings including idol of the underkings i got for 1k back before PoP came out, saw another one for sale the next day at 40k so it can pay off just browsing :)

The secret to a Bazaar Mule Success. First of all, you need a Female Toon. Elven characters in leather and thigh high boots are ideal for this...

It's true.

Well, window shopping does seem odd, but on my server, some players do the spam-inspect thing to grief "price undercutters." It is not hard to make a trader go LD.

<strong>Naked erudite chicks are hooooot.</strong>

As long as you're using old world graphics.

For the love of pete, don't make a naked erudite chick with luclin graphics /shudder

They could be people like me who dont KNOW what we want specifically. For instance, I know I want a new belt but im not sure what would be the best one for my cash so I go around and see what people have to offer. If I see something nice I buy it. Not everyone goes to the bazaar looking for a specific item.

But in your example, Traab, you could open the bazaar window, type in your race and class, then select belt slot, and see what comes up. From there you can right click on the items to see the stats, and you can also restrict the search to a specific stat, or also within a given price range.

Save a lot of time over going door-to-door in the laggy bazaar.

I love Luclin graphics. Suppose it's just a matter of taste ~ have a friend who runs all old graphics by choice. She just likes 'em that way. After a few weeks of running new ones, the old ones are just so... POINTY to me. <shrug> :)

The problem with the search tool is you have to be actually looking for something. I like window shopping.. you sometimes find something great that you wouldn't ever have thought of looking for, and for some insane low price. Just like going to the sales :) The downside is that window shopping gets expensive heheh

Some people actually like the window shopping. If I'd been playing for only a few weeks I'd probably do some of that to get some idea of what items there are in EQ, in a random way.

Some people don't know there's a bazaar search window. They just don't know what all the slash-commands are in EQ, and don't read the welcome message when they zone in. I know some of them. Remember, not everyone is as intelligent as us.

Some people know about the search window, but don't really know how to use it to search for items they can use. Like Traab, I think.

Some people browse on accident -- if you're an ogre standing in a crowded section (like near one of the banks) it can be rather difficult to successfully click on that halfling behind you who's got great goods.

But generally if I see someone browsing, I'll try to send them a tell to explain how to type /bazaar. If that person doesn't know how to respond to tells, or just chooses not to, it's not very satisfying though.

I have a problem actually getting at traders sometimes. Especially when it's in one of those clusters that's oh so common in the bazaar. They could be trying to get at somebody and have accidently clicked on you.

Then again I also window shop so it could be that aswell...

Nope, I keep my guys in an uncrowded area, with no one in front of them, these were definitely window shoppers =)

You know,

It is funny how many stand up on the front line.

I find the vendors back against the wall the easiest to get to.

Click Jonas Grumby
no not you
Click Mary Ann
no not you, dang it
Click Roy Hinkley
frick, finally

Since I started standing back against the wall, sold more junk too. Go figger.
