let me start by saying, yes i have played many classes, no , i have not played them all. i have not played as long as some, but i have gotten very far in EQ.

i have a good understanding of almost every class, and those i have not played i can ask several friends, and form my own conclusion.

Most classes if not ALL need tweeking, some NEED a complete overhaul. and has been stated by some classes since 1999, and quite loudly i must admit.

i am wondering now, why Ryan, Brenlo and other devs feel it is apropriate to ignore thier paying customers ?

many classes have said "we NEED X + Y so we can be balanced "

Why is nothing being done? Do the Developers not get paid enough? Is there some lack of funding?

here is just a quick glance at what some of the classes need or MUST have to be balanced and playable.

Mages need love (root, a small way to drop some aggro+ others)
just like clerics do (invis, some more utility)
like druids (better aggro management to name just a few)
and shadowknights (some tanking tweeks, skills fixes, not just to be Voice of thule bots)
shaman (buffs, heals, lots more )
enchanters ( some way to do dps besides pets, a better AE stun + others)
rangers ( a fix to dps besides insane ratio's on 1 handers that out do bow damage, fixes to buffs, + more)
warriors ( aggro problems, disc abilites, disc timers, endurance bar, having to rely entirely on gear) paladins ( a way to do nice dps, thier own type of utility)
monks ( to be unerfed, disc tweeks, why does FD fail so much ? monk dps fixes)
wizards (upgrade to concussion, some utility, better nuke foci)
necromancers ( better nukes (they hate dots), more utility (dmf and twitch does not make a necro happy) AE lifetaps)

i could go on, but this post would be huge.

this may get edited, im sure it will, but i am posting this on class boards too. so it will be seen one way or another.

The players are not satisfied, we are tired of the "wait and see" , you can no longer placate us all.
we are going to take action, you either do as we ask, or lose your customers.
i myself have between me and my brother 5 accounts, that not much, but we have man friends, who all have many accounts, and they have many more friends.
Do not just state "your argument does not satisfy Ryan, so you will not be upgraded"
You will listen, or your player base will shrivel up and move to companies who WILL listen, like blizzard, Sierra and many others.

(as we speak kyar (or something) deleted all my posts on the Eq live boards, and the people who posted asking where my post has gone have been banned, and had thier threads deleted.)

i guess it is best we keep this out of EQlive, for fear of retribution.

Explain that title please?

And my 2cp is that you should vent your angst on some other game. I see too many crackpot "We need" threads to belive SoE should reply to them all, and if that makes you angy... quit.

many classes have said "we NEED X + Y so we can be balanced "

I think my guild leader said it best. Most people want class superiority, not balance. It is very difficult to wade through the crap to get to the real issues.

Bye.

Oh, and good luck in your next job as a consultant to Blizzard who will be implementing your every suggestion without hesitation.

Ya know there is a reason why the devs dont take every suggestion into acount. Classes should have weaknesses as well as strengths, otherwise there will be only one class, and that will kill the game.

I love these threads that predict the end of everquest. I really want to see one thats based in reality though.

I'm sure EQ will last for a while, but the reality currently is a steep decline in particpation pretty much across the board. I believe it would be more logical to predict this as the end (however long the end lasts) than it would be to predict otherwise. I believe the biggest issues that are causing less mass appeal are not fixable without basically turning EQ1 into EQ2. That is not to say many gameplay issues will not be fixed and a resurgence of participation cannot happen, but it is unlikely, even given that all summit issues are addressed, that EQ1 will ever return to the numbers it once enjoyed. The core of the game is just getting too old to keep up with the new competition. I believe Sony would have to redesign that core in order to stem the flow of leaving players in a major way. I do not believe they will do that for EQ1 because that is essentially what EQ2 will be. EQ2 may enjoy similar success to what EQ1 had previously, but I believe EQ1's days are, indeed, numbered.

Lots of classes are out of balance. In fact compared to Beastlords every class is out of Balance :). It is a difficult task balancing classes. SoE can not simply read the class Forums and follow all the suggestions offered there, the game would be 10000x more unbalanced than it is now. In fact we would end up with just 1 class in the end.

Everyone Wants to Be Powerfull
Everyone Wants to Have a Unique Role
Everyone Wants to Be able to Solo for Good XP
Everyone Wants to Be the one that causes the Raid to be cancelled if they do not show up.
Everyone Wants to be the one that hears "Group Looking for {MY CLASS}" whenever they pass through any zone.
Everyone Wants to Special
Everyone Wants to be Pretty and Witty

One of the most important things to consider however is what everybody does not do:

Everyone does not post (or even read) any Message Boards related to EQ, the MB communities are a small and completely unrepresentative portion of the population. In fact a significant portion of the most active members of almost every class forum do not even play eq anymore.

So knowing all these things, how do you "do as we ask," if you are SoE. You seem to read a lot of message boards, so right now post the list of things that can be changed so that everyone in every class will feel balanced.

I would suggest the process is not quite as cut and dried as you make it out in your post.

SoEs biggest problem is they are never (ever) consistent about anything. One minute they will seem to be going along at a steady deliberate pace to try and balance things and then out of no where they will toss in a couple of really bizzare , poorly thought out changes that don't make any sense. They have clearly had leadership issues over the past few years.

We can hope Joh Smedley tightening the reigns a bit will help provide them with some direction. They also need more integration.. EQLive team over here working on Balance while Expansion Teams A, and Normally B are working over here in their own little Vacums, is what got us in this mess in the first place.

I agree with you , there is definately a problem. I jsut don't think the answer is qutie as simple as you do.
