Since the servers are going to be down an extended 3 hours, I thought it be fun to list some of the Best and Worst Patch Mishaps to date. Some I can think of off the top of my head are…

Imbued Plains Peebles; both Single and Mass versions.
Tribute Points
Infinite Mana ala Shadow Knights
(just some to get you all started)

Can’t think of any Worst patches, but I’m sure many of you will!

Foraging cloaks of flames, among other nifty items.

That'd prolly count as a "best" patch, even though I didnt forage anything fun hehe...

My favorite patch was probably "Project M" for those few hours it went live on the Zek servers.

Damn that was fun...lol.

project M was a blast. i logged on and ended up as a gnoll in splitpaw, and there were even a couple others that were also there in splitpaw under human control. how do i know? cause we all found each other and were jumping up and down in a circle together. then a human (real player) showed up and we KICKED THE CRAP OUT OF HIM! IT WAS AWSOME!

then a human (real player) showed up and we KICKED THE CRAP OUT OF HIM! IT WAS AWSOME!I got to be a goblin in Misty Thicket,(had to log on and off like 50 times before I found got a semi inhabited zone..hehe), and went on a newbie halfling killing spree.

It was AWESOME!

I think "Project M" was mostly scrapped because there was no accountability for griefers... how do you /report a mob?

I'm sure there were some people playing nice and not trying to grief newbies... but playing a lower level character on Test was very unpleasant, for the most part, while that was on the server. You'd have MPCs (monster player characters) who'd wait until you'd just killed something and were low health; or MPCs that would run off as soon as they were low health, making it very hard to kill them; or MPCs that would circle strafe you... etc. etc., PvP tactics. In general, it was just a big nuisance, especially as it wasn't consensual.

They should've just made a Project M server. Give the players that play there tons of bonus XP for killing player controlled mobs. Keep the random zone thing however, so you can't have one person with two accounts sitting in the same zone all the time killing safely. The having to reload thing would stop that cold.

Best non-expoitable patches:

There was the shorty hybrid patch where they added a bunch of rezzes and changed up the percentages. If they weren't they same patch they were close atleast.

I personally liked the focus patch, even though I didn't really have much of any focus at the time. The idea was very exciting, and entirely changed the game for casters.

Worst patch:

The patch that #(*^$)(@ tribute and introduced it. It was incredibly inbalanced and there are still people reeping the rewards even now.

The patch that nerfed the horse buff and forced people to turn on new models. Yes it was broken, but they didn't fix anything. It was just a horrid evil workaround.

And possibly todays patch where casters will lose more power to melees than ever before. The best part is SOE tries to suger coat it with non-game changing features such as an extra spell gem, etc.

Cool idea having a project M server, someone should type up a proposal!

Would be cool to have it where the more kills you got as a monster would add to a counter and the higher your count the higher your chance of spawning toward the high end of the level range for monsters in that zone.

Something like that would guarentee the my current month's subscription (this is the first month in the last 8 I've played/been subscribed) would be renewed next month :)

Worse for me as far as graphics was the directx patch, since then I’ve not been able to see Self Buffs in 1st person, can’t see certain pieces of armor and I can’t see grass in Luclin. I worked with Sony on this for a few weeks as well as trying various things on my own, their conclusion “try another card.” I have a ATI 9600 pro.

Project M sounds alot lik the new PvP situation on VZ. It's near impossible anymore to go to a zone, say for shard hunting, without having everyone's favorite turd guilds; FE, DOWN, Aerist; waiting for you to zone just to get the PvP points. Word is they quit playing EQ and all they are doing now is camping zone-in's to kill everyone to see who can get the highest PvP score. In an hour I was PvP'd 3 times in 3 different zones, and only once got to engage a mob before dying to a group of these guys...and I was actually in the middle of killing the mob when I was jumped. Hmm, so much for "server" rules.
So, get rid of all the NPC on the server, since there isn't anyone hunting them anymore, guild progression is none existent. Time to look for a new server where I can PLAY EQ for what it was meant to be...

There was the graphics patch that turned everyone in WC into pirrannas that was fun.

The DirectX patch was a disaster.

There were so many patch disasters over the years that I have lost count and try to forget them..

And it took all this before you realized PvP on EQ is total crap?

My favorite patch will always be the one where newbie mobs were dropping PoSky armor. Man was that funny.

What about the one where sharks were dropping thousands of plat per kill? Screwed server economy permanently in some cases. People were asking 1 Million plat for some items, AND SELLING THEM!

cant believe noone has mentioned the Pottery Sketch fiasco...

test had a price point change on them and it trickled over to live...and since the new price was HIGHER than the old, a bunch of people just loaded all their toons with these sketches and waited for the patch, and then just cashed in. i dont remember how much you could make on that one, but for the time it happened, (i think pre velious) it was a LOT.
