This has happened to me atleast 10 times now, all thanks to the OoW patch today somehow.

the problem: I get on to play OoW (Yay) I get my password right (Yay) I click Druzzil Ro (Yay), I click Play Everquest (Yay) Games goes black as normal bringing up the sounding screen then crashes, it seems I've tried everything and as usual SoE is No help, they like the Directx info so I figure who doesn't?

Thanks in Advance

Dont know if it makes a difference, but you could try installing directX 9.0c.

*edit* also, just read that apparently the fix they are advocating is to run the test patcher (i.e. log onto test server) and then go back to your regular server. No idea why this would work, but there you go...

I've tried to test server thing too, and Directx was sadly no help:banghead:

do you have an ati video card.

Seems they do not want to work with oow and supposely sony is trying to work a fix for it.

I get the same thing on my 2nd pc with the ati card.

Looks like he has a radeon 9200. I have an ati radeon 9600xt and it works fine (so long as shadows are off... shadows on makes it cry, despite shadows working fine in doom3 hehe...) Am using the latest Catalyst 4.9 drivers, though, and your drivers look about 7 months old, so you should probably update them.

I know some other people who are having this same issue, if they discover a fix/workaround I'll let you know.

Try this. Open your eqclient.ini file (in the everquest directory) and look for the lines that resemble this, and change the values to zero, etc:

VertexShaders=FALSE
20PixelShaders=0
1xPixelShaders=0
WaterSwap=0
Shadows=0

*edit*

There's also this thread (http://eqforums.station.sony.com/eq/board/message?board.id=tech&message.id=67230&no_redir=true) on the station.com for you to post crash info so they can work on a fix. Seems ATI-related. Also seems that the lagarific shadows are not laggy on nvidia cards heh..

Anyway, according to Rowyl, they've patched in a fix, so re-running the patcher and getting the updated files may help.
