Any advice on taking these? We tried swimming down well in the courtyard but unlike last time I was there one of the fish saw through invis and our paladin had 5 pirahna on him before we knew what was happening. Is there a better spot or safer approach for a very non-uber group to try killing these fishes? (err fish)

I had the same experience, it was me and a tank friend. We had to evac a couple of times and i took a death or 2. But in the end we had a whole bunch of them stuck in the wall near the zone-in.

At that point I went back to the pool and there was only one left there, so we killed that, looted and ported out.

But i have heard horrible stories about people getting summoned all over the place into walls and stuff.

Oddly a bard in my guild was able to attack the pirhana without being hit back while they were stuck in the wall at ZI. About 8 other people were summoned into the wall or underwater and either had to zone or were killed.

I have no idea why he wasnt being attacked and neither did the bard. The plan was to have the bard highsun the mobs back to their spawn place but it wasnt needed.

These fish have been broken for a long time, i filled out a big report shortly after we were all that point in the epic and was told it was a known bug. Whether it gets fixed or not is another matter its been like this for a very long time.

Gosh, I just followed the instructions in the walkthrough. I had to exodus once, but once the spawn was broken, I was able to porcupine them pretty much to death and get the meat.

I porcupined as well. I used SotW every time, and took a short break between kills; made it pretty safe.

These were a major pain for me. When they're bugged at zone, they gain agro immediately when you zone in (if you are not invis). While you can move past them, there is risk to remaining on their hate lists, which we found out the hard way.

We had fought into the pyramid room for a BST epic turnin, when our enchanter suddenly vanished! Turns out somebody had attacked the fish at zone-in, beat a hasty retreat by zoning out when they started to summon. We were still on the hate list, so they continued summoning us.

I subsequently watched a necro dot them to death without getting summoned - it turns out they can't summon you into water if you are on a horse. This is obviously an exploit, so I don't recommend this.

I brought a shaman and warrior friend and, after a few abortive 5-fish pulls, got some singles and got the drop.

I haven't yet seen any fish at the zone-in.

Killing them single is not a problem, breaking the spawn was. After re-reading the walkthrough I suspect maybe we are swimming down in the wrong spot. Both times we tried swimming down the well we had immediate aggro from 3-5 fish, which was not fun. I was stupid and forgot to re-check the walkthrough thread instead of just the nice write-up, and now I see:

From zone in, go out on the yard, turn around facing south, go up the ladder, in the door, down there till you find a water hole, swim down to bottom. Kill the piranhas here.

We never went through a door. Will try again tonight, thanks.

From maps on EQAtlas, we were going down the right well on north side of courtyard. Didn't even realize there was a ladder back south towards the zone...looks like the hole we want to swim down is near 0,0 on the map, to area near the room marked 3 on lower map...correct?

Yes Tuladen. That is exactly the location.

My strat for killing em was this:

1) Equip Enduring Breath Item
2) Load up Egress
3) Invis
4) Run through courtyard - up ladder on south side - down through the well
5) Slowly decide which fish was closest and least likely to cause aggro problems
6) Cast snare on said fish
7) If fish brought friends - swim up well and egress - rinse repeat

If you got your fish solo...
8) Pin yourself in the corner directly under the well.
9) Make darn sure your fish is snared
10) Porcupine and nuke till dead (casting is easy underwater when you get yourself pinned) Can also have a friend porcupine and tank if your HP's are a little low.

I wouldn't recommend fighting under the well itself. One time, I got summoned and stuck back at the top of the well, where the lizards joined in the fun.

Instead, I stuck myself in the SW corner, to the side of where the well opening is.

When I did this there were 2 that would swim into the tunnel toward me (being just below the well) which were easy to get single. When I tried to get others further in I always got 3-4 at a time. So I just sat at bottom of well and would wait until one would swim toward me. Had to wait for these 2 to respawn but in the long run was faster than all the deaths and evacs.

I did the same thing vekx did. My armor isn't so great so I got a symbol, focus and kei in pok and went to cazic. Killed the two easiest to get and logged for 15 minutes to preserve buffs. Log back in and killed again. 3 rounds later and had the drop.

If fish are stuck upstairs, I would not pull with a ds on. I did that once, got 3 fish, channeled an egress at 5% health and when I popped the fish upstairs aggroed and transferred agro back to the fish I just egressed from getting me summoned since they were damaged from the ds. Used exodus and same thing happened to my death. You don't really need the ds to kill them it just helps a little. You can tank one or even two and nuke them down easy enough. I have fairly crappy gear by todays standards, ornate boots for mp and the id belt and it wasn't very difficult.

Yeah there is 2 Pirahna that are close to the bottom of the well. Can wait til one leaves and then fight the other one in the well. Buffing up and Porcupining them to death.

Then you can fight the other one when he wanders back. Well most likely you will get to this point and be the unlucky Druid and still have no drop like I was.

So, now your sitting there, almost FM and Healed..You look into the pit and man there's a ton. Get too close to split them and they will train you nicely.

What I suggest is pulling out Boo Boo (what the useless bear?) and have him attack one and as soon as he hit's one hit 'Back' repeatedly on the pet window really fast. Boo Boo will come to you crying with only one Pirahna on his tail.

Take him to the shaft...Snare him and Porcupine. Repeat until you get Lucky.

Guess Boo Boo isn't so worthless after all

That's pet pulling for you. As long as the pet is green, mobs won't assist on it (if pet dies they will assist on you though.
