View Full Forums : Cat spec with lots of proccing abilities

Hey folks :)

I have a little lvl 52 druid and I've pretty much settled on my endgame spec, which is 11/35/5 - concentrating on backstabbing cat form in terms of talents. This is basically for raid dps.

My guild is farming Nefarion on a regular basis and it's looking like pretty soon our alts (such as little druid) will get to go to Molten Core and Onyxia, as none of our mains really need much from these instances anymore.

I'm currently thinking of trying an idea out for a build. Bear with me here, as it's kinda a long-winded explanation.

I have omen of clarity already, so there's my first "proc" ability. Second, I intend to get Darkmoon: Maelstrom, which gives a chance on hit of 200-300 lightning damage. I also want to get another trinket that drops from General Angerforge in BRD - it's called Hand Of Justice, and gives a 2% chance on hit to get an extra attack.
Finally, I want to get full stormshroud. There are 2 set bonuses - the first gives a 5% chance of doing 15-25 nature damage (chance on hit), the second gives a 2% chance of gaining 30 energy.

So all told that's 5 procs; omen of clarity, hand of justice, maelstrom, mini-lightning from stormshroud, and +30 energy from stormshroud.

To round teh build out, I was thinking about getting the +1% attack speed enchant to gloves, and 2 librams of rapidity (2% attack speed each) on legs and head. This would give me the fastest single attack speed in the game (not counting duel-weilding rogues here, hehe) of 0.95, thereby (hopefully) causing flurries of multiple procs and some very sick damage.

Nobody in my guild that I have spoken to has attempted anything like this before, so I was wondering if someone here could maybe advise me on my proposed build? Is it even worth trying, or will it definitely be rubbish? :)

Many thanks.. :)

While still fairly new to WoW, the mechanics of the game may be similar. In EQ2 the longer the delay on the weapon (or the slower atk spd) the higher chances there were to proc. So, if its the same case here, you would still be doing a ton of dmg, just not proc'ing as much.

Hrm, I'm not certain if the mechanics of warcraft work in the same way..

Can anyone enlighten me/us on this matter? :)

First off: This is a SICK idea. Really, really nice.

I have two concerns, neither of which I know the answer to.
1. I am not sure if your darkmoon and brd procs will work in cat form. I would check up on this. My guess is that they would.

2. I am not sure if the atk speed enchants from the libram/libram, or libram/glove, will stack. I would check up on this as well. My guess is that they will not stack.

As far as procs go there are two types. Some, like crusader, are coded to proc once in a set amount of time, regardless of atk delay. In this case, the system is like EQ2.

Other enchants are %chance on hit. Examples would include +4 dmg (100% chance on hit) or lifesteal (forgot the exact %). With these types of enchants you get more for your money, so to speak, with a faster weapon.

I do not know but I would educated guess that the trinkets you're looking at are coded to proc once over a set amount of time.

EDIT:
This fits nicely with your concept: http://www.thottbot.com/?i=52134
Both the stats and the look fit, IMO.

You could add a gift of athas potion to give yourself a chance WHEN hit proc as well.

Create summed up the rest rather well.

Thanks for your advice everyone.. :)

It looks like the only way to be certain about this is to try it. I will let you know how I get on..
