Alamo and his stupid posts are a frakking blight. I hate them. Burn them in fire and get rid of them forever.

/agree

I read enough posts from people who never learned the English language, why subject myself to an intentional grammatical butchery?

How "Healing over Time" spells generate threat:
The threat from HoTs are applied every time the HoT ticks. This means that there is no initial threat from applying a HoT (though it will put you in combat with a mob if the target of your HoT is in combat with that mob).

The above have led to confusion, because many druids believe that casting HoTs on a tank just before he pulls a boss will generate threat and possibly wipe the raid. This is NOT true. In order for a HoT spell to generate threat, the mob has to be aware that the spell has been cast (even though the threat is normally applied on each tick). If a HoT is cast before entering combat with any mobs, that spell will generate no threat even if combat is initiated before the hot runs out.

This is from the druidwiki site and it seems to be incorrect. Had a druid friend try it out tonight, he cast a rejuv on the MT right before he engaged the boss and as soon as the hot ticked the first time the mob turned on the druid.

Am I missing something here?

druidwiki is correct. He was probably in combat but had not "reached the target yet. I do this all the time before major pulls (in fact I light up the MT with Rej, Regr and a bloom and get 0 aggro.

Not sure if the mechanics changed, but I can corroborate that HoTs do cause aggro once they tick. Nothing can pull a boss to a raid quicker than loading a tank up with HoTs right before he engages.

Think we figured out what causes the agro. If the MT uses that ability that takes life to give them rage, that's where the person who cast the hot gets agro because the hot actually heals him before he has a chance to touch the mob.

I disagree....as previous poster said, I also cast all 3 HoT's before the MT goes into combat. Once the MT gets engaged I'm *still* out of combat (unless it's a boss fight) until I start healing again. Taht way I drink some free mage water and am 100% before the dmg really starts to happen.

I posted on the 3 HoT's and verified last night. It alll has to do with being in combat. We tested multiple times while running Shattered Halls and the results were always the same. If the MT is in combat (does not matter if he is engaged yet or not), think about when you stand outside a fight then click to attack but you are too far away...it puts you into combat. Now, if the MT shows in combat and you hit him with a heal, guess what...you are in combat and then when he pulls aggro you get aggro from your HoT. Try putting a HoT on the tank way before they even think of using any talent that puts them into combat and you will get 0 aggro. And as stated by ixeos above, chill, have a drink , kick back, relax!

Rocks man. Thanks for the info and the "experiment". :D

Just started playing my druid as a raid healer and I always thought it worked like this.

I somehow feel dumber for even reading that Alamo jibber jabber.
