Just ding'd lvl 30 last night. I want to finish The Sacred Flame (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1197). To do so I need to kill two Flame Guards (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=7404). They are lvl 30 non-elites. They are in a cave, so I don't have any CC options. How do I best approach this scenario? (My Profile (http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Steamwheedle+Cartel&n=Felkan))

I was in the cave at lvl 29, but chicken'd out as I don't seem to be doing all that well in multi-mob scenarios with my Druid (it is too easy with my hunter). I know this situation will occur many more times while leveling and I want to "know" the correct technique now rather than hoping for a few extra crits to save my butt.

I'm not familiar with the quest in question, but I'd say HoT yourself up and Bear it. If you can't get one of them down without shifting out to heal first, bash one so you only have one hitting on you while you're healing, then resume.

I was thinking something like, HoT me, Dot both once and then bear. I'll try that tonight. Though I might not have much mana left if I need to shift out for a mid-fight heal....

While in bear form should I bother with swipe or just focus on one with maul?

Focus on one first, then the second.

Also if you get in a bind while trying to heal, since you are tauren don't forget warstomp.

I would start out like this. Make sure you have thorns on then Toss on a rejuv shift bear do feral charge, while the target is stunned work on the non stunned target. Demo Roar to lower incoming attacks on you, FFF the target you are hitting and maul them to death. If you get low on HP bash shift out and heal, or if you have a potion drink but I usually kept a few mana potions on hand so when I did shift at lower levels I could heal then drink a fast mana in case I needed to shift a few more times to reduce the shifting cost.

If things get ugly while trying to heal, meaning stunned target is no longer stunned then warstomp heal and back to bear. Finish first target, if you have lots of rage a swipe here and there won't hurt but don't gimp your rage just for a swipe. Once the first target is dead just work on target two shifting out to heal when need be.

It will take a bit of timing since the cave is in close quarters and you can't root since it is indoors. Now outdoors for leveling I put 1 point into Nature's grasp as it made taking on two mobs outdoors in feral forms much easier. If you are outdoors and know you will get two mobs with a pull; clear an area to pull to and then root pull. Never ever be afraid to start out a pull with a spell, even in dungeons as the tank I will start the pull with a spell then drop in tank and go at it.

But overall leveling up..indoors use and abuse your stuns: Bash, Warstomp and Pounce(once you get it) to give you a few extra seconds to heal or dps down the first mob.

Outdoors NG is golden for soloing and use those roots.

When I kill things in feral (I'm Resto) I tend to like to open up with a StarFire as its the biggest nuke I have for the buck and your first spell is basicly free cast time wise. Then I follow up with a moonfire and FF as I back up. Then quickly drop to bear. Most of the mana I spent doing these are regened while in bear form so its not too bad. At that point I'ld Focus Fire down the first target. Once that target is down its ussualy the best time to Bash your other target and heal up. Though things you might want to look at. If you have frenzy regen you might want use it if you have alot of rage before shifting out. If you dont you still want to use as much rage as you can before you shift as your going lose it.

I was able to complete the quest last night. I'm not sure what I picked-up at lvl 30 that helped so much (FFF?), but I was amazed at how fast I was killing single mobs (as a kitty).

I cleared the area of the cave (to prevent adds), cast both HoT and then moonfire both mobs, switched to bear and maul'd one mob down. At this point I was at 20% health, I bash the healthy mob, shifted out for the 2s Hot, switched to bear and finished him off with maybe 10% health.

If I had to do it over again, I'd skip the moonfire on the 2nd mob as it didn't do all that much damage, instead I'd SF and MF the first mob, switch to bear and maul. Plus I think I'd use the bigger slower casting heal after the bash as I have ~4s. That might let me shift into kitty for the 2nd mob. We'll see, I have to take on 3 mobs tonight, but they can be CC'd (with both hibernate and root).

You have to complete the quest given by the druid trainer to obtain bear form (there is a similar quest to obtain water form and cure poison spell). Once you have the form, another bar appears on the UI. Click the buttons to switch forms.
