So I spent my largest time investment in WoW to date, getting my NE Druid all the way up to 16 (woo-woo). I picked tailoring for a tradeskill just because I couldn't freakin' find the bag merchant (which turned out to be right next door) and I needed bags, durnit.

However, now that my bag crisis is over, I'm curious about what I should take for a permanent profession. The links in the top post are very lacking, so I was hoping someone might be able to provide a good site or two where I could get info on what you can create / produce with the various tradeskills, and what you all thought would be a good choice.

Thanks!

www.thottbot.com has a fair bit of info on recipies etc, myself, i'm all herbalism/alchemy
Some of the potions can be a real boon to a feral specced druid, especially the pot's that add to AC :)

Cool, thanks Crimson - I kept linking to sub-items in Thottbot and never saw the frontpage. I was checking out Allah's in the meanwhile. I was thinking about herbalism, but how hard are the plants to get? I mean, while I'm out killing things (or being killed) I see various herb. plants, but it seems like it's a lot easier to get tailoring supplies (especially when you know the right mobs) than alch/herb items.

With my Warlock I went Tailoring/Enchanting. Tailoring since I could make bags and cloth armor to wear and enchanting, since I could tailor items to disenchant and skill enchanting :)

With my hunter I went skinning/leatherworking.

I am going to make a rogue do to herablism/alchemy and a paladin to do mining/blacksmithing. With the mail system I can keep myself stocked in about anything I need :)

well, herbalism supplies aren't that hard to come across, my pack is always crowded with them, some herbs are a bit rough to find (curse you stranglekelp!).

As far as tailoring... I personally see that as an invalid profession for a druid, as there's very little I can get out of it beyond bags and setting trends.

Plants aren't hard to find. Mining/smithing seems to be the best money maker so far though from what I've seen. I'm doing tailoring with my priest and the market is swamped with bags/cloth items so there's not much profit there.

See, I was looking through the Alchemy and Enchanting stuff and that looks like a lot of fun, but the ingredients (cost of) looks daunting. I'm looking at cost on those things because I can't remember too many times I've run across a "Strange Dust" in loot.

:) enchanting ingredients come from disenchanting other items, so yes, it IS very expensive in that you don't get all the non-usable loot to give to your guildies or sell, you have to make a choice between making it available, or using it for reagents :)

Best to pair up tailoring with enchanting, since you can easily make green items and disenchant them. It's the cheapest way..but still expensive, since you're using up supplies and not selling anything.

As a druid, I would think that there are two viable tradeskill sets to choose from, Herbalism/Alchemy or Skinning/Leatherworking.

I'll do a quick write up for the trade skill area now on Herbalism/Alchemy, but really quickly, you will always be able to personally make use of your items and you can also sell your herbs and certain potions for nice cash. The herbs you need for your potions are harder and harder to come by as you get higher.

Skinning/Leatherworking you will sometimes hear complaints about people not being able to keep up their trade with the current level gear, but other than that, you can in theory provide yourself with nice armor all the way up, as well as selling things like armor kits and any spare leather you skin.

Even though I think those are the two most viable, there really is nothing stopping you from choosing just about anything. On the pvp server my druid is most likely going mining/engineering, since I'm already doing alchemy/herbalism with my priest and my friends on that server already have leatherworking covered.

Oh also, here's a great professions FAQ: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-professions&t=40&p=1&tmp=1#post40

Mining/engineering is pretty handy everywhere, if nothing else, because it's simply the profession you NEED to have to use a lot of the items. Everything else you can buy/get from friends.

And also, for herbalism and mining, you get a skill that shows close spawns of various herbs or veins on your mini-map, so it is fairly easy to find them just while you are out hunting normally. And they tend to spawn in places that "make sense" ie most mining nodes are found near or in moutains/hills, the same type of herbs are found in the same types of enviornments, etc.

And yeah, for enchanting, you disenchant green or better items to get the stuff to enchant with, only buy things to make your runed copper rod to start. And yes, take tailoring with enchanting so you can make tailored items and disenchant them. Or you can wait and take enchanting when you are higher level, taking a gathering skill until then for extra cash.

Yeah, that herbalism thing was COOL. I was wondering how you were just supposed to bump into plants. Unfortunately it seems that the majority of plants grow with the stupid )#(*$(#)$ rabid bears atm.

I went skinning/leatherworking. Light leather is a huge seller at the moment(up to 1s per piece). I am only level 18 and have just over 3G.

This is in addition to having tailoring around 115.
