Heh, I didn't even get that staff until 24... it should probably work pretty well for a while, being a rare quality item. But, if you're looking for better stuff, try doing a weapon search (http://www.thottbot.com/?f=w&skill=Staff&minl=22&maxl=26&mind=20) on Thottbot, and specify weapon type, level, dps, etc.

Rod of the Sleepwalker (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=7655) is what I am using. It is a relatively common drop from the final guy in Blackfathom Deeps. At your level, I imagine that instance in Ashenvale would offer up some other upgrades and be good experience with the quests.

Rod of the Sleepwalker (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=7655) off Twilight Lord Kelris in Blackfathom Deeps
would be the next step up, and and decent one stat-wise.

In the Scarlet Monastery, there's 2 staves there you can get.
The first is Loksey's Training Stick (http://thottbot.com/?i=12425) off of Houndmaster Loksey,
and is a fairly uncommon drop. The second staff drop from there
is an incredibly rare drop off of the regular unnamed elite mobs
in there, the Windweaver Staff (http://thottbot.com/?i=4704).

If you can, try and get an intermediate staff in the auction
house to bide your time between these 2 instances if you can.

Eladius, and others, this may be a totally silly question, but I'm not sure why those two Scarlet staffs are necessarily upgrades? I do see the increase in DPS and I also see the +30attack v. beasts and arcane missles increase, respectively. But my thinking on upgrades has mostly been a focus on certain stats. For myself, in order of focus, I look for +Spirit, +Int, +Sta. Since staffs can hold so much spirit depending on the staff you get, my thought has always been to pass on staffs (or other weapons) that are upgrades unless they come with a healthy dose of spirit. Am I missing something?

Don't forget there are a lot of 20-30dps 2h mace available to druids. Weapon skills train very fast so there is no reason to stick with only one type of weapon. I've been using 2h mace for about 15 levels now. My staff sits in my backpack--but if I find one better than my mace I'll switch in an instant.

I just realized I forgot a staff from the Scarlet Monastery, which
in fact is probably the best staff you can get for a caster at its
level: Illusionary Rod (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=3228). It's a semi-common drop off Arcanist Doan
in the Library instance.

It's a little slow, but you can get high 200s crits with it fairly
easily, and the stats really help with your mana pool.

If you stick to Scarlet Monastery, you can eventually get
a great 1h-mace, 2h-mace, and dagger as well to use for
alternate weapons:

-- Hand of Righteousness (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=7662) ~ 1h-mace (High Inquisitor Whitemane)
-- Morgraine's Might (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=3567) ~ 2h-mace (Scarlet Commander Morgraine)
-- Hypnotic Blade (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=4015) ~ Dagger (Arcanist Doan)

I currently have a Staff of Jordan (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=7166) for when i'm concentrating on healing (usually when i'm partied and being counted on as a secondary or occassionally a primary healer).

And i switch off with my Mograine's Might (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=3567) when I solo.

I get a lot of tells and questions in game about where they came from. The staff came from a guildy, she got it as a random mob drop in around level 45, the mace came from Mograine in Scarlett Monastery 2 days ago :)

if you have some good friends you can check out Maraudon there are some nice weapons to get there. My group for maraudon farming always consists of high dps classes just because i am to lazy to find a tank =). Rogues make decent tanks anyway.

Charstone Dirk(my personal fav.):
Main Hand Dagger
40 - 75 Damage Speed 1.60
(35.9 damage per second)
+11 Intellect
Durability 65 / 65
Requires Level 49
Equip: Restores 2 mana every 5 seconds.

or you can get....

Fist Of Stone
Main Hand Mace
44 - 83 Damage Speed 1.80
(35.3 damage per second)
+11 Stamina
+5 Spirit
Durability 90 / 90
Requires Level 48
Chance on hit: Restores 50 mana.

Both are really nice at your level and they go well with....
(which drops in the same zone and the same mob where the Fist of stone comes from

Cloud Stone
Held In Off-hand
+10 Intellect
+10 Spirit
+10 Arcane Resistance
Requires Level 48

I am kinda partial to my Glowing Brightwood Staff (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=5621)

I was using Tanglewood Staff (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=14725) from around level 43 to early fifties when I got Fist of Stone (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=19460). I paired that up with Spirit of Aquementas (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=8525) or Clouded Stone (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=19570), swithching them out depending on whether I was soloing or being group healer. I also have a Resurgence Rod (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=19543) which I rarely use. Frankly, I have just become a big fan of my lower delay mace, and the effect on Aquementas is preferable to Resurgence.

But since they are nerfing Aquementas into oblivion in the next content patch, I picked up a Soulkeeper (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=6760) in the AH. Haven't equipped it yet, on the off-chance I pick up something better before the patch. Even then I still might sell it, I am having a hard time going back to a slow staff after using a mace for so long.

IMHO the best weapon is the Argent Crusader (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=19796). The grind to get it is long, but it's a quest reward, which means you don't have to rely on luck to get it. Add a +9 intellect enchant to it and you've got boo-koo mana pool goodness.

I switch between using it and The Gift of the Elven Magi (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=17773) with Penelope's Rose (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=19080) with OOC when I run out of mana.

OK, I tried to look up the quest for Argent Crusader, and had some trouble finding all that's involved. Near as I can determine, this is the chain that needs to be completed. Anyone who has done the quest, please let me know if I am missing anything.

First you must complete the quest [61] The Archivist (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=883)
- Archivist Galford (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?n=14597) slain

Then in Stratholme you need to kill Balnazzar (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?n=258751). Looting the Head of Balnazzar (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=24623) starts the quest:

[62] The Truth Comes Crashing Down (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=5585)

- Take the Head of Balnazzar to Duke Nicholas Zverenhoff in the Eastern Plaguelands

Duke Nicholas Zverenhoff the gives you the quest [62] Above and Beyond (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=4781)

- Head of Baron Rivendare (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=26071)

After killing Baron Rivendare and bringing the head to Duke Nicholas Zverenhoff you'll be given an audience with Lord Maxwell Tyrosus inside the church and he will give you a choice of a Argent Defender (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=21010), Argent Avenger (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=22062) or a Argent Crusader (http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=19796).

Also, curious how you handled looting the quest items if you were in a raid. From what I am reading, you need to be in the raid when they engage the target, and right before he dies you need to disband. Then loot the head off the corpse and after than rejoin the raid. Is that correct?

You've got the sequence exactly right Falloraan.

To get the quest items complete while in a raid is pretty simple. As the mob you need credit for is about to die, leave the party. Be sure to hit the mob at least once! Loot the head or what not if required, and then get reinvited back to the party.

Rumor is Blizzard will be 'fixing' the drop raid bug with the next patch, so do it quick!

Thanks for the confirmation. I looked and found this in the patch notes:

If you enter an instance in a group, and then leave that group, you will not be able to complete quest objectives until you rejoin the group.

So either need to really hurry (doubtful), or do the quest with an extremely strong group of 5 (doubly doubtful) =/

For Balnazzar you don't have to leave raid to get his head you just need to have done the prequest for Archivist. Once Strath and Scholo are redone with this patch I doubt 5 manning any of it will be that difficult, although you will need a fairly good group.
