Alright....they said the game would be back up after the scheduled down at 11:00 PST....then said they were extending it for certain realms to "improve the in-game mail system"...and then became very vague on why the realms were still down. Right now it is 9:20 EST and still no servers.
I'm usually a very patient person regarding things like this, but i mean c'mon. The site forums are in an uproar, players are in an uproar, heck i'm in an uproar. Anyone else care to comment on their view on the matter? :newburn:

I was a little sad that I couldn't get in, but now that I am, I'm having alot of fun playing with our new toys and have already forgotten why I was mad ^^

I think ive allready expressed my opinion. I finally got in and was greeted with increasing MS, finally peaking at 1800. In any event, before i logged i went and spent like 20g on all my new skills including all the ones introduced in this patch. Its an upgrade for sure but so far im yet to see what kind of practical use barkskin will hold. I dont know if its the catform dps increase or not, but i crit a even lvl rogue with ravage for something like 650+ damage which ive never done before (im res specced).

Still as happy being a druid as i ever was :).

Blizzard patch days rival the worst of EQ patch days. Seriously.

I still haven't been able to get the download, I haven't been sitting here trying over and over though. Hopefully by tomorrow they will have things up and running smoothly.

From experiencing EQ's patch days for 5 years I just take the day off now and do something more fullfilling. Nothing worse than sitting there hammering the log in...

oh and you will only get angry if you let it make you angry so find something else to do on patch days...

I recommend doing the port forwarding that they suggest. My DSL dload rates went from 2.0 kps to 70 ish. I was done in 13 minutes. Sorry to all of you who had to wait the hour, but at least it wasn't 5.

As for the patching taking forever...
If they spend only an hour patching and things are broken....
...people complain
If the patch takes forever, but most of it works well...
... people complain cause they are impatient and want to play
If there's a patch every week...
...people complain that they patch too much
If there's a patch every 3 months...
...people complain that they try to cram everything (and can't log in that 1 day out of 3 months OH NO!)
You can't please everyone I guess.

Personally I come from 3+ years of EQ. I got rather sick of the servers being down sometimes 3 times a week for a hour at a time only to find out what they claimed was patched...wasn't. I'm glad to see Blizzard is so determined to fix in game problems and make sure they work. It seems like they care more than I would expect them too... at least after seeing sony care less and less about the EQ customers.

Sony Customer Service...

Blizzard Customer Service...

Same ****, different day. They both suck. GMs are unresponsive in both games, patch day sucks in both games. Server stability for Blizzard is sucking bad, but so did EQ in it's first year.

Currently the only difference is that I like the gameplay on WoW more than I like EQ, thas it.

Maybe I was just lucky, but the one time I had to petition a gm, I got a response in like 5 minutes. A friend of mine has had similar experiences as well. In EQ you don't even get to talk to a gm anymore. They send you an email type thing. Even a year before that they were up to about a week on response times... and if you weren't online the petition got dumped. But like I said I don't have much experience with CS dealings in WoW, so it's possible I was just lucky.

IMO the patches seems to be attempting to fix things that people actually care about, as opposed to "fixing the door in Ak'anon" (a zone that, at that time, almost no one ever went to unless a lvl 1 gnome, for all you that didn't play EQ).

If you think the patch day is angering people, check out the WoW Realm boards. Server transferring has people completely flipping out. :)

Patch day = going out and watching a movie day.

Things usually settle down by the time I get home from work on the second day. We'll see tonight.

Oh, and Constantine was really good. :)

I am still getting error messages from the patch but at least I can play. EQ patches either went smooth or were horrible disasters so I assume that WoW patches will be the same. I just played another game while my machine downloaded last night and other than having to play without a custom UI for a few day and some error messages my playing has been smoother than the day before the patch.

...on a Bank Holiday - when I'm not at work! Looks like a day out might be in order. :)

Dunno about everyone else's realm but yesterday on Garona, the boat from Menethil to Aub was back... but then it decided that it was tired and logged off. My roommate was on the boat when it suddenly stopped in the middle of the ocean and disappeared (I thought it was funny because it gave me a severe case of EQ Deja Vu). It was even funnier to me because A: I wasn't on the boat, and B: It was fatigue water. Everyone who fell off started shouting "SWIM!!!"

I... was in Ironforge... trying to get to Darnassus. Teleport to Moonglade took about ten minutes. I cast the spell... would stand there... cast again... stood there. Finally figured that the griff would probably be faster - but... he wasn't there. So, as I stood around figuring what to do, I suddenly ported to Moonglade :P

I have been having computer issues so I hadn't logged in for the past few days - so I had some AH money in my mailbox. Unfortunately I couldn't get any of it because the mailbox was so lagged. After purchasing all my new skills, I called it a night. :P

lol. I've just been lurking so this is my first post but.. I couldn't help myself.

hehe, I can just imagine everyone's shouts when the boat gave out and really wish I could've seen it.
