Here lately I have been finding myself main tanking for instances up to ZF about as much as I have been main healing. Although I have been receiving many compliments on my abilities in both areas, I am always looking for areas of improvement. I am just about to ding 48 and finally get NS (7/11/20 atm). After that I was thinking on putting 5 more points into Feral to get Fairie Fire - Bear Form. The idea is to fine tune hate generation and better control agro on 1-3 mobs. I do alright as it is, but if possible I would like to do better. So before I apply the talent points, I would like some feedback from those that have had/still have this talent.

First of all, does Fairie Fire generate that much hate at all and how does that compare to swipe and taunt? As I said I would like to have a bit more hate generation than I already do atm, especially from something that is not ae (3 targets in front arc) due to cc mobs etc. and from something that is faster than taunt.

Second, would Primal Fury be worth putting some talent points into for the additional rage? Unfortunately I will only be able to apply 2 points as the other two will need to finish off Sharpened Claws first.

Please advise, and as always, thank you in advance for your help.

Hmmm, noone has any comments on this ability?

Can I at least safely say that this ability should cause added hate as it does in caster form? After all the spell is just a toned down version of the warriors sunder armor, correct?

Please advise.

While I have never tried to parse chain casting Fairie Fire to determine the amount of hate generated, it isn’t much. A mage casting counterspell (a zero damage debuff) will produce more hate than two casts of Fairie Fire. Use growl/roar to keep the mobs fixed on you.

I do use growl, roar, maul, swipe, and even frenzy regen in order to keep and maintain agro. No brainer there. My question is however how much better would it be if I added fairie fire into the mix?

On initial pull tag the incoming mobs with moonfire, rejuv for the extra hate, bear form with abilities to keep the mobs attention the best I can barring overzealous group members. What I would like to know is how helpful would it be to tag the mobs with FF after switching to bear? Sure I could tag the mobs initially with FF instead of MF, but wouldn't it be better for agro management if I could do both? Also, wouldn't FF help supplement the agro with multiple mobs since growl is only single target and on a timer?

I have the impression I should just check it out for myself and report my findings.

On a side note, Cedre made the statement that "A mage casting counterspell (a zero damage debuff) will produce more hate than two casts of Fairie Fire". How do we know this is the case, especially since hate in WoW is not something that can be parsed as it was in EQ1? If the statement is actually true, then should it also be true if you substituted in sunder armor for fairie fire since the abilities are fairly the same? Well, maybe not greater hate than two sunders, but most certainly greater than one. And before anyone states it, yes I understand player level differences between one another and between the NPC's they are fighting along with dps and healing being applied in any given situation factor largely in how well one can keep and maintain agro.

From experience. Mage pulls with counterspell (so that the mob will charge us instead of standing and casting spells) and I try to pull the mob off the mage. Two casts of fairie fire will be ignored, but a single cast of moonfire and the mob heads for me instead of the mage.

Fairie fire does not add much aggro. We all agree on that. If I guessed I'd say it was somewhere along the lines of where Demo Roar is except single target.

I think you could generate more initial damage aggro than what you stated above. When tanking I usually pull with Starfire. I Moonfire the second mob in the pull and sometimes the third/first also if I have time. That usually is enough to initially hold them for a few seconds while I get into bear and use an AE.

It gets harder for druids to tank when they can't pull and get that initial damage aggro. This becomes the case around Blackrock. If you intend to tank through the 50's you'll need every trick you can pick up.
