I was wondering if anyone has experience getting a player outside the US able to play on US servers?

From what I understand you need a US cd-key and a US/Can credit card or whatever to pay for the monthly fees.

I am willing to set it up for a friend of mine living in south africa, but we're not sure what exactly we need to do. Namely regarding installation on his PC... does he need a US cd? Can the game be downloaded somewhere? If he installs a Euro copy on his comp and then logs in with a US key will it work?

Payment is not a big deal, I will use my CC. and he will fwd me payment by paypal.

I do believe he will need US cd key and US credit card to play. Not sure about downloading euro copy and logging with a US cd key. I had a friend who was in europe, but used US copy and US cd key so he could play in the US servers.

I have one of the trial DVD discs that are forever being included in PC Gamer and the like. I have used this to install a couple times (since I own the CD version and a too lazy to disc swap).
I would say the easiest thing for you to do is to get him one of these trial discs and install using that (or he may be able to pick it up at a import magazine shop) and for you to set up a account using a CD-Key from a copy bought in the US and your CC. Then you can give him the accounts login info and he will be good to go.
I would also guess that the game is downloadable somewhere, but you will need the key/account to actually use the download.

He will need a US CD key.

He should not need a US credit card, but he will need to enter a valid US address (this does not need to be the address his credit card is registered to).

He can install the Euro copy, but will need to edit his realmlist.wtf file in the WoW directory so that it reads:

set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

He will then be able to log in the US servers (provided he has a US account set up).

Hope this helps!

Hugs,
Tiniane.
