Re: UC TV: The skinny on fat (Part 1)

Maybe you haven't read the two studies but both showed a calorie =/= calorie. So a chemist and a doctoral student disproved the laws of thermodynamics? Seriously? High Fructose Corn Syrup is a few steps away from alcohol and your body can't break it down as easily as real sugar so it gets stored as...

Re: UC TV: The skinny on fat (Part 1)

So he changed 2 variables. Not sure how he proved what you where trying to point out. If you consume fewer calories than you expend, you will lose weight. For weight maintenance, a calorie is a calorie, whether those calories come from sugar, broccoli, hot dogs, or some combination, and whether the...

Re: Why is the media portraying him as a boy?

Now that he got a real attorney and better PR people, he will get out on bond and probably win.

That means Oakland merchants need to dust off their Oscar Grant storefront barricades.

I wonder how the media will spin that.

Re: If this is accurate....

It also reinforces my point. Politicians say they are spending 11.2k per/child by showing you the spending bills they pass. They don't show you the fine print that starts siphoning that money off to other non-education projects if certain arbitrary benchmarks aren't met. Actually, the California Co...

Re: Utah (governor) did something correct

Regarding the small government and intrusion. These people only believe in the right of -men-. Apparently women, in their minds, need to be controlled and regulated most strongly lest they do things like develop a mind of their own. Or turn out to be human beings with human needs and desires. You f...

Re: Climate-Change-Denier-Gate?

There are core samples of the time when homo habilis was evolving to homo erectus that the climate changed from wet and hot to wet and balmy on a thousand year cycle. 1) Those aren't on a "thousand year cycle", more like tens to hundreds of thousands of years. 2) They can be explained by ...

Re: If this is accurate....

They are not spending $11.2k on each student in California. I said we plan to spend $11,246 per student, not $11,246 on each student. "Classroom instruction" makes up 61% of the expense. This is straight from the governor's official budget , by the way, not some partisan advocacy group. Y...

Re: If this is accurate....

I have worked in education, getting my degree so that I can teach education, and I can promise you Europe out spends us on K-12 Education and College. The 2012-13 California budget calls for $67.1 billion in spending for K-12 education, or $11,246 per student. That's about 70% of the entire state b...

Re: UC TV: The skinny on fat (Part 1)

It would be interesting to see where this goes -- whether it's just a rehashing of the fructose hypothesis or something more interesting. But, strictly for weight maintenance, a calorie is [/b] a calorie. Americans are getting fatter because their calorie intake has been steadily rising since the 19...

Re: If this is accurate....

We need to increase Educational Spending Or, we (that is, you) need to realize that state and local governments, not the federal government, pay for virtually all of education; that we already spend more per student than almost every other country; and for that increasingly massive spending we get ...
