Found this interesting and thought I'd share since I think I've seen other drug posts here.

Yup. There's nothing quite like a drug searching for a disease.

McMurphy was sane. And it is inferred that Chief was too.

That is the irony of the whole deal.

But many people are not. And the ultimate irony, is that because of that one movie, and the movement that followed...And a large percentage of them are now untreated, and homeless, and walking among you. This is what you wanted. And you got what you wanted.

For those of you who think that the mentally ill and brain damaged are overtreated, you just have not been exposed enough. You don't know them. You may empathize with McMurphy who had his brain cut out maliciously and wrongly, because like him, you are sane and normal.

Of course there are the very few exceptions where some mentally troubled person, whose neurotransmitters work wrong, becomes some artist or singer of a band. Then to write fantastic songs, perhaps, about the horrible life that meds have given them. But the vast majority of the mentally ill, will never write a song that you will ever hear, or produce art that you will ever see.

SSRIs are merely what they are. They are not a panacea. They are what they are. If they don't work for you, they don't work for you. No more than Coke Is It.

But to say that because they don't work for some people, that they are not right for others....That's just plain wrong headed. And you get what you pay for.
