Soloing Old Raid mobs

Post by Daldaen »

I have a lot of old raid mob kills under my belt, as I remember them I'll list them here.

My most recent kill however occured today when my guildmate LDed and I figured I should just kill this mob anyways:

Decided one mob in CoA wasn't enough, so I went back last night. First up, Keldovan. I tagged Keldo, ran into a pit, killed 4 mobs then dragged the 5th out and killed it. I started off thinking that I could just DPS it down with fire, soon I realized even after I fully debuffed him, Fire was very hit or miss on landing. So I swapped spells out for big DSes and let him die to those.

After downing Keldovan, I went after Ture. Easiest mob in Anguish by far, just a straight out burn on him.

Lastly, I ended with Arch Magus Vangl. This is by far the hardest solo of the 4 I did in Anguish. It was looking very close at the end, He was at about 10% when I ran out of mana. At 20% I popped Jester in hopes it would refill me, it didn't (Until after AMV was dead, figures.). At 10% I popped Staunch (reluctantly, all previous fights used no veteran abilities) and proceeded to finish him off.

I started the fight simply burning out AMV, with Cure aura up to remove the DT any time I got it. Got him to about 85% before adds started popping. The largest Issue with them is the fact that they are almost 100% fire/ice immune. The only thing that would land was Manaflux. So I had to largely rely on large damage shields to hit them down (which is why I used White Wolf much more than Black Wolf).

Went back to clean up in Anguish. Took down Jelvan event relatively easily. I'd say AMV was more difficult as it required me to use Veterans (I think if I tried it again I'd be able to pull it off without vets...), but Jelvan was a close second being under 10% health multiple times and having relatively equivalent mana to their HP throughout the fight.

Re: Soloing Old Raid mobs

Post by Iila »

I read these when I got back into eq and didn't even know what these mobs were.
Now that I'd done some L90 CoA clears, it's not much the difficulty of kill these mobs that scares me. Its the extreme boredom. These were all boring as shit with 3 priests and our stupid bots for dps. And as your logs show: Combined: Tanthu the Tormentor in 2812s. Combined: Arch Magus Vangl in 1435s. Ture in 639s. Keldovan the Harrier in 1363s. Ture is pushing my limits on what is an interesting solo fight, the rest are more about not falling asleep while neither of you does enough dps to win.

But what other raid mobs could be interesting solos, post-coa? I know the DoN raid mobs, and Vish seems like quite a challenge for a druid to solo. Wouldn't be so bad without the HP locking half my sk+dru attempts end up with one of both of us being flung off the edge and bugged.
Yar'lir seems within druid solo range, might be worth giving a try some time soon. I know Volkara is easily druid soloable by just waiting to time your twincasts to AE out the spider eggs.

I honestly have no clue on what other raid mobs might be viable targets after that.
