Why we can't get along?

Post by AbyssalMage »

The rich are different — and not in a good way, studies suggest

Less empathy, less pro-social behavior, and less compassion....Wonder who that sounds like on these forums.... :P

Ahhh, the anonymity of the internet

P.S. Just had to razz you...

Keltner has also studied vagus nerve activation. The vagus nerve helps the brain record and respond to emotional inputs. When subjects are exposed to pictures of starving children, for example, their vagus nerve typically becomes more active as measured by electrodes on their chests and a sensor band around their waists. In recent tests, yet to be published, Keltner has found that those from lower-class backgrounds have more intense activation.
That is funny.

One of the things that the vagus nerve does when activated is to help you bear down to take a shit.

I suppose this is a direct correlation, that rich people don't give a shit.

Poor people have never given me any money. They don't have any.

Poor people might not have a problem giving poor people money, as long as it belongs to someone else.
They are only less selfish with other people's money.

They don't have to pay for them. I do. If you're down on your luck, don't f*ck, would be my view.

I find it ironic that the rich are the ones who support a giant welfare state of poor, yet are vilified as having less empathy and so on.

Next time you want to put down a rich person, remember that he is the one paying for your military, your roads, your Internet, your police, your firemen, and all of the other socialist benefits you take for granted.

You know, I was wondering who they sampled the poor people from. I know 4-5 groups of poor people myself, and I don't think they were represented in the sample population.

1) Street people beggars, they are mostly rude, ungrateful, and indignant. Get out of your car anywhere in Oakland if you don't believe me.
2) I have friends who are poor, they don't give away their money. They may blow it at Bingo or Jackson Rancheria.
3) I have family who are poor. Biggest bunch of thieves I know, stealing from their own family.
4) Poor people I take care of. A very high degree of combined rudeness and ingratitude. I have no memory of a rich patient treating me like a servant or slave, or expecting that it was ok to treat me like a servant or slave. It is poor people who treat hospital staff(the people taking care of them, keeping them alive) the most shabbily. The one's who are not even paying their bill, you do that for them.
5) Poor people who shop at WalMart. Rude bunch of selfish thoughtless people.

I would say that none of these poor people, that I know exist, were represented in the sample population of poor people for this study.

OBTW,

Most of the Internet I use, was built by companies and corporations.

Not the government.

The first original government pipes from the 60s and 70s are, if they are still in fact intact, so slow that none of my packets run through them.

The vast huge majority of my usage in bandwidth is coming from files from other personal computers. But I do visit some government servers occasionally. And doing tracerts, all of the traffic is on privately built lines and routers.

And the vast majority of roads built were built by independent private companies. Those streets out in front of your homes, they were built by the developers who built your home. Not by any government.
