So, the LDoN maps everyone was downloading are woefully incomplete, especially Guk. Has anyone run across better ones?

I suck at making maps, I just reads 'em!

Actually, what I try to do is turn on automap and it follows me around. But it looks really bad. And I forget I'm doing it and accidently close my map. /sigh

I try to do some work on the incomplete ones when I happen across them. I start off doing just a path diagram of where I have been. When the party leaves the dungeon if I'm not going for another run, I'll use the 30 minutes to complete some of the room shapes, they are by no means very good but they are getting a little further each time.

I've also noticed some of the ones that look complete are actually missing a door which goes down another hallway.

This is the reason the other day I asked for an offline viewer for my maps as I want to be able to compare the ones I have against others and pick the best of the both.

Did you find a viewer?

I thought the mapping tool looked a little unweildy to use, but perhaps once I got used to it I could use it.

There is a rather nice offline viewer...kind of neat to see zones from angles you wouldn't normally be able to see them from. It made me appreciate zone designs that much more.

Of course the LDoN zones aren't terribly interesting to look at with the viewer, but I imagine it would be useful for comparison with your own maps.

I'm not sure if I should post it here...it might be considered reverse engineering? It has a fairly obvious name and website though. :P

Perhaps this is what you are looking for?

<a href="http://eqmaps.@#%$.net/" target="top">EQMaps Viewer</a>

Oh, this was written by me a couple of months ago, I haven't touched it for ages so if there are any compatibility problems... please don't blame me :p

Oh well, I guess I can always post the link, and later edit it out if it's decided that the program violates the license agreement or anything like that. Seems like kind of a gray area to me.

I like that program Palarran, I have got that one saved now and I'm sure it will come in handy. Personally I'm trying to find (but may end up having to write) a program that lets you view the maps you make in game outside the game. The .txt files that are in the maps directory that is.

1 question though - Any way you can actually stop yourself from moving in the viewer you wrote. I would almost like it to be something like in EQ, holding down the mouse button sets you moving at the speed you set in the dropdown box, letting go stops you.

Can you make ingame maps using the EQZone viewer?

Eep, I didn't write the viewer...sorry if I gave you that impression. :)

I don't know of any convenient way to use it to make an ingame map. However, it should be a simple feature to add, I would think. Maybe it's part of the new version coming out soon...
