Even though I like other classes a bit more, sentimental feelings surround my Druid. She was my first character, and I ran around the known world at the time, retiring her shortly after Luclin went live in favor of another class. My main is part of a raiding guild, so I don't have much time to devote to this alt.

I have been frusturated lately at where to go at 49, what to do with the space I am in, especially with relation to my spellset. Perhaps I am not seeing what's yet to come, in spite of being surrounded by skilled Druids in my guild. I'd rather not see her gather dust forever, but don't want to spend time leveling a character if in the end I will just hate it more than I do currently.

I realize this community generally caters to the 60+ crowd, but any suggestions for getting out of my 'Druid rut' would be helpfull. Things do get better from here, right? What did you do when you were in a rut?

49 gives you a new spell for quad kiting, if I remember right. I spent a couple levels in Cobalt Scar but that was before it became crowded...although it may be deserted again these days, I haven't spent much time there.

You could try charming rockhoppers in Dawnshroud using Allure of the Wild, although that has a painfully long cast time. It becomes MUCH easier with Call of Karana at 52 (and Glamour of Tunare, our one magic resistance debuffs, helps quite a bit too). There are a bunch of other great places to use Call of Karana too, including Chardok, Maiden's Eye, and Plane of Nightmare/Disease.

kei + spirocs + common sense = 49-52 in a day

Old school druid here, I grew up my late 40's in Kunark - mostly Dreadlands and Burning Woods :)

Although, weren't the high 40's the ideal time to quad raptors in TD?

Forgive me, I have absolutely no idea what good exp is anymore, so I'm just guessing.

If I remember correctly, I spent 49 to 50 slowly grinding in velks and dreadlands. Then I discovered the miracle that is cobalt scar and soared to level 54 pretty quickly. Of course, this was all before PoP and maybe even before Luclin.

I guess with PoP, Planes of Justice, Nightmare, Innovation and Disease are good places to quickly ramp up from 50 to 65. I know I went from 60 to 63 in under a week at the nightstalker camp in nightmare. Of course, that was when PoP was new and unnerfed. Still, I would expect some good xp there.

The Jaggerpine Forest zone is also a very good zone for a druid in the level 49-55 range. Just avoid to kill the wolf, bear and panther. You can get some nice item if you aren't twinked.

So many excellent suggestions!

Quad kiting:
Spirocs in TD may be a little low by level 49, but are good fun to beat up on
Raptors in TD are too high for level 49, i'm pretty sure
Wyverns in Cobalt Scar are great at that level all the way to 54

Charming:
Jaggedpine Forest is great from the mid 40s to the low 50s. Go in wolf form for the faction adjustment and charm griffons and, later, snakes. Kill other griffs and snakes, and poachers if you want. Edit: If you kill the wolves and the bears you may become KoS to the animals AND in town (they're on the same faction).

Grouping:
I'm not sure how busy these areas are anymore, but KC, PoV, PoN are all options at that level.

As for the rut feeling, well, I hope you get over that. Some of these suggestions should hopefully help you find some interesting things to do with your druid. I know when I got in a rut from quad kiting, I would switch to charming for a bit or some other tactic.

I'll bet, since this is an alt of a high level character, you have the mana pool to be able to swarm kite the spirocs. Get 8 of the little bird-men following you and blast away. Other ways of getting xp that aren't as empowering or fun are aggro kiting and root-rotting.

Good luck! I did the same thing with my wizzie - my first character. Sentimentality made me spend hours leveling her even though I don't even plan to play her much. I'm stuck at level 64 now lol.

Thank you for the suggestions =) I really appreciate it, and will try the Spiroc Island tonight. Been AGES since I was out there, lol.

I'm currently 47 and I've been quad kiting Spirocs in Timorous Deep, they should be good till about 51 or until some of them turn light blue. Next will be Wyverns in Cobalt Scar to say 54 and then I'll try my hand at Raptors in TD to 60. Of course, this is also a good time to hunt giants in Kael to get good faction with CoV and start doing some of the Velious quests. Also, arent' the drakes on CoV faction? Might be a good idea to get on their good side, hehe.

Of course, the experience zone "hot spots" are supposed to be pretty good too. I think from 40 - 50 it's supposed to be the mines of Nurga.

The Drakes have faction (I think), but they can be avoided while kiting Wyverns, that do not have negative factions associated with them.

Just dinged 48 yesterday as a result of a pretty fun AoE group in Dawnshroud Peaks. I'd run in and pull all the Rockhoppers and let them chase me around while the other casters would nuke :frocket: the heck out of them. It was pretty wild. Had a couple of close calls, but wow, talk about fun. The last couple of levels have just flown by. Don't know if it's just me or if that's normal for this level range though.

Drake and wyvren are Both on CoV faction but only the named give you bad faction hit if you kill them.

As for xp past the Wyvren level (54), you can get good xp from the otters (not bad PP too) Or ME quading But i think that you should be looking for PoP zones at that point... PoI/PoN charming is a good xp (nightwalkers yum yum).

Another note on JPF. The Northern Gnolls (not the anchorites) were good for me until late 50's. And rarely ever did I have any competition for them. And they don't hit hard should anything go wrong. I used to let them beat on me to get my Def skill maxed =)

Jagged pine is fun. I really liked that zone. Get your faction up and head to Cobalt Scar. Good xp, and good money as well. I rarely see anyone there anymore.

Sell the wyvern hides in bazaar (I think they still sell)

at level 49 i would head to cobalt scar. the zone is usually rather empty and you can make a great deal of money there from the gem drops and from wyvern hides... they still do sell in the bazaar for tailors to improve their skills. they sell on my server for around 150p still (i was nice to an old friend and sold 140 of them to her for 100 p a piece and she felt i dealt with her fairly).

this is a good zone till you hit around 54 or so. you will need at least dubious CoV faction to hunt here so i would suggest you go kill giants in Kael for a bit first.

good luck!

I agree with Gul there. CS was great for me. At the time, I quaded wyverns till 52 or so. It was great XP and good loot drops ie. pp, quest armor gems, gems, and hides. I had killed a lot of giants before tho, quading giants in GD for XP and in Kael so I was Ally to CoV.

For the last couple of nights I've been camping between Gornit and pulling the occassional wandering seafury cyclops for experience. While waiting for Gornit to respawn, I run back to the Isle where the Ancient Cyclops is supposed to spawn. But so far after killing 20+ cyclops I've yet to see the Ancient Cyclops. I thought this AC was supposed to be more common than the one in s.Ro. Or is the one in s.Ro just ultra rare?

2 years ago my guild spent 36 hours realtime in 4 hour shifts trying to get the AC to pop for one of our clerics. It finally popped after a patch :P
